SSE PLC and Equinor ASA said Tuesday that they have ordered 190 wind turbines from GE Renewable Energy, a subsidiary of General Electric Co., to be installed at the U.K.'s Dogger Bank offshore wind farm project.

The FTSE 100 energy company said the deal is subject to the first two phases of Dogger Bank reaching financial close. Turbine installation is due to begin in 2023. This is the first time the 13-megawatt Haliade-X turbines will be installed globally, SSE said.

GE will use the Able Seaton Port in Hartlepool as base for the delivery of the projects, and this will lead to the creation of 120 new skilled jobs during the construction phase.

Based in the North Sea off the east coast of England, Dogger Bank is the world's largest offshore wind farm under development. It will be constructed in three phases, with a combined generation capacity of up to 3.6 gigawatts. SSE has a 50% interest in the project, with the other half belonging to Equinor.
