General Electric Co. said late Wednesday that subsidiary GE Renewable Energy plans to open a new facility to manufacture wind-turbine blades in Teesside, England, and that it will be open and ready to start production in 2023.
The U.S.-based multinational conglomerate said LM Wind Power--a Denmark-based subsidiary--will set up and operate the plant, and that it will be dedicated to the production of its 107-meter offshore wind-turbine blades. The company said these are a key component of its Haliade-X offshore wind turbine.
GE said the plant could create up to 750 direct renewable-energy jobs and up to 1,500 indirect jobs in the area.
"This announcement and commitment support the U.K. government's plan to develop jobs, infrastructure, and supply chains to reach its goal to commission 40 GW of offshore wind power by 2030 and become a global leader in green energy," the company said.
