Workers at Boeing Co.'s large plane-making facility in South Carolina on Wednesday voted against joining a union in a move that could affect where the company manufactures future aircraft models.
Seventy-four percent of the nearly 3,000 hourly staff at Boeing's plants around Charleston, which assemble 787 Dreamliner jets and other parts, voted not to recognize the International Association of Machinists, Boeing said in a statement. The hard-fought campaign drew criticism from both sides for the tactics employed to sway workers.
The Charleston plants are the sole assembly facility for the new 787-10, the largest member of the Dreamliner family, which is set to be rolled out Friday at a ceremony attended by President Donald Trump.
