Well it took about 3 weeks but IG finally shifted my NEX shares for me. 20 shares at 1110p would have given me £222 but they have deducted £40 (!!!) in dealing charges leaving me with £182. Can't say I'm particularly impressed.

I've set up another ADVFN thread for the non voting shares. Not really much point apart from the price chart. For a share quote from ADVFN monitor the shares are at NEX:ARBN

I can't get any price for these new non voting shares via ADVFN, using NEX:ARBBN {But, see next post} Anyone else know if it is possible? {Yes!} TIA I have included a link in the heading to a quote for ARBN shares on NEX, via Bloomberg. Bloomberg doesn't seem to like ad blockers. ;-)

Thanks for the insights pvb. I'd certainly favour a higher yield over my insignificant quantity of voting rights. Sounds like this may warrant further investigation.

...These are non voting shares in ARBB. Apparently the intention is to raise capital (for reasons of bank Capital requirements?) without compromising/relinquishing control of ARBB to 'outsiders' (i.e. Other than Henry Angest etc). There is no great "benefit" to a shareholder holding them over normal ARBB shares AFAICS. Other than you buy into the explanation for them from the bank. OTOH I expect they will trade at a lower price than normal ARBB shares. This does mean they should be cheaper and have a higher yield than the voting shares.

Just found a handful of these NEX bad boys in my IG account. Any benefits to holding these over the LSE shares? I don't really understand them to be honest.

WRT Secure Trust Bank, they have been selling it down for some time so it isn't that surprising. Though it was how they started out it may no longer fit, they seem to have decided a while ago to go upmarket with the original takeover of/namechange to Arbuthnot Latham, Merchant and Private banking. Henry A. was getting bad publicity via STB a couple of years ago following their takeover of Everyday Loans. I see from the STB R&As that Everyday Loans Group was sold in April 2016.

Quite agree topvest,my gut instinct here would have been to retain their sizeable stake in STB, especially as support for the bank has been extremely positive. Then again they may have plans for the money?

I'm not in favour of it, and have voted against it, albeit I trust Henry Angest to generally do the right thing. I'm also a little surprised at the Secure Trust Bank sale. Surely, this bank is a BUY at its current valuation rather than a SELL. They obviously need more capital to grow.

So, any thoughts on this proposed bonus issue of non voting shares to be traded on NEX? Sounds complicated to me, I am unenthusiastic. I assume it is a takeover avoidance mechanism. Henry A. planning to keep it in the family?

Yep, fortunately, I think Arbuthnot and Secure Trust are well run prudent banks.

I'm coming to the conclusion that banks are a sector to avoid most of the time. Basically they return 1% or so on assets employed and then leverage up 10 or 15 times to aim for a ROCE of 15% or so. Which is why, I guess, when things do go wrong: Boy! Do things go wrong... ;-)

A quality bank in my view. It will be a steady performer and happy to hold. Difficult to make big money in banks unless you are an employee though. Net assets £13 per share and 5.6% return on deployed equity here. I'm coming to the conclusion that banks are a sector to avoid most of the time. Basically they return 1% or so on assets employed and then leverage up 10 or 15 times to aim for a ROCE of 15% or so. This bank is better than most to hold though.

STB had excellent figures released today. Up 95p at the moment and that's before the IC summary. In my calculation ARRB has added assets this morning of £2.5m, not bad! R.
