10:28 ET -- Costco Wholesale Corp. is one of the most mentioned companies in the U.S. across all news items in the last 12 hours, according to Factiva data. The membership-only big-box warehouse chain reported its first decline in monthly same-store sales since April 2020. In March, total same-store sales fell 1.1%. Comparable store sales excluding the effects from foreign-exchange and gasoline-price changes rose 2.6%, but missed a consensus estimate of 3.9% growth on Wall Street, according to FactSet. Analysts are associating the dip in Costco's March sales with discretionary-spending levels which have flatlined under inflationary pressures and macroeconomic uncertainties.
