NEW YORK,, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Gulfport Energy Corp. (NASD: GPOR) will replace American Physicians Capital Inc. (NASD: ACAP) in the S&P SmallCap 600 index after the close of trading on Wednesday, October 20.  The Doctors Company is acquiring American Physicians Capital in a deal expected to close on or about that date, pending final approvals.

Gulfport Energy engages in the exploration, development, and production of oil and gas.  Headquartered in Oklahoma City, OK, the company will be added to the S&P SmallCap 600 GICS (Global Industry Classification Standard) Oil & Gas Exploration & Production Sub-Industry index.
