Le autorità argentine hanno assegnato ufficialmente ad un consorzio guidato da Eni la licenza esplorativa per il blocco MLO 124. L'assegnazione è avvenuta a seguito del Bid Round Internazionale "Ronda Costa Afuera n. 1" che si è tenuto il 16 aprile 2019.
Il Blocco MLO 124 è localizzato nel Bacino delle Malvinas, nell'offshore meridionale dell'Argentina, a circa 100 km dalla costa; copre un'area di 4.418 km quadrati, in profondità d'acqua che vanno da meno di 100m a 650m. Eni detiene un interesse partecipativo dell'80% ed è operatore di un consorzio che formato anche da Tecpetrol S.A. e Mitsui & Co. Ltd., ognuna con il 10%. L'attività prevista nei quattro anni della Prima Fase del Periodo Esplorativo consiste principalmente nell'acquisizione di prospezione geofisica tridimensionale sull'intera area del blocco e altri rilievi geofisici con metodi potenziali.
