Enel SpA said Tuesday that the renewable capacity it built last year was significantly higher compared to the year prior and mainly came from wind and solar power plants.
The Rome-based energy company said that the renewable capacity built was 5.12 gigawatts, an increase of roughly 65% on year. This includes around 220 megawatts of battery capacity.
Once fully operational, the new capacity is set to produce around 16.3 terawatt hours a year, preventing the emission of around 11 million tons a year of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, according to Enel.
Enel's renewables arm Enel Green Power now manages around 54 GW of total renewable capacity and foresees reaching around 154 GW by 2030, it said.
The energy generated from renewable sources last year amounted to around 119 TWh, of which 55.4 TWh from wind and solar, 57 TWh from hydro and 6 TWh from geothermal.
