jon1962,

The price of the shares during the dot com bubble is not a fair comparison , and therefore not relevant.

Grosvener ,

If you take the time to read the statement you will see that the offer has nothing to do with childcare; there is an international software company involved here.

richjp,

I hope you are still out there. I have held a considerable number in my ISA for many years , and have had most of my original investment back in dividends to date .
The offer suits me nicely.

Remember these when they were over 2 quid! Have they done a share split over the years

yep, FY results due this week or next I think

hopefully the chumps will also include an update on the strategic review

wishful thinking perhaps, but at least the ongoing stock-exchange OPD requirements mean EDP remains open to bid discussions

a non-exec at Sanderson PLC has bought a few more EDP shares recently. Sanderson PLC owns 2.3% of EDP and its directors now now 0.7%.

Half year results out in case anyone had missed them:-

NickK1, great minds -- I was just about to post about Sanderson. Its investment goes back to 2012, when it spent £131k on 292,500 shares = 45p each. Interesting the directors of Sanderson own a further 67,587 shares. The statement issued by Sanderson is an opening position disclosure prompted by the review and stock-exchange rules. If Sanderson subsequently deals in its EDP shares, it will have to issue a revised shareholding update. Anyway, I think it is bullish a sector player holds some EDP stock and might know a few potential bidders -- Sanderson may be too small to bid for EDP itself.

roddiemac2,

I believe these are the latest RNS holdings of the three:

Boyles:

Oleson:

Ewing Morris:

I reckon they represent 17.87%, 5.25% and 5.15% respectively.

Each should be issuing an OPD soon to clarify what exactly they own now. A few OPD RNSs have already been issued, including some from who appear to be individual investors (Spencer Crookes and John Rockliff)

Good point about Heller. I always thought it odd that EDP struggled to sell its properties despite Heller running London & Associated Properties and presumably knowing the ins and outs of the sector. Although looking at L&AP's performance over the years, maybe it is not that surprising. Hopefully he is keen to want out and get a good price.

I have decided to add following my musings yesterday.

Michael Heller will be 80 in July and holds 28% of the shares, so it seems that he clearly wants to cash in. I see from the recent RNSs that there have been a few substantial purchases from people that probably have a better idea of what the company is worth than some of us.

I think the company will definitely be sold. It just depends on the price. Nothing is without risk of course but I am hoping for a nice little return in a short period of time.

Richjp, there is another Thread on the EDP ticker that is (slightly) more active

A bidder may be looking at culling central costs. In particular, the board earned £400k last year. Stock-exchange charges, broker fees etc may all disappear as well. Could all make a difference on a business that reported only a £377k operating profit last year.

Also, a rival software supplier was bought by a (now-ex) EDP customer the other year. So another customer buying EDP might make savings, too, to justify a premium.

Well, let's see anyway.

Hmmmm. It's alive! And the day befoe XD to boot. Not a coincidence, I suspect. Pick up the 3p today and next year's already mooted dividend of 5p gives a total of 8p in a year's(and a few days!) time. On the purchase price of 72p that's a yield of over 11% to start with. OK, the share price should come back by some, or all, of that but if the company shows any sign of health it might well not-or even improve. Worth a punt I feel.
