UK house prices rose more than expected in May

In the UK, the house price index advanced 1.30% on a MoM basis in May, compared to a revised rise of 1.50% in the previous month. Markets were expecting the house prices to rise by 1.20%.

UK retail sales advanced in May

In the UK, retail sales across all sectors jumped 18.50% on a YoY basis in May, compared to a rise of 39.60% in the prior month.

Euro-zone investor confidence index advanced in June

In the Euro-zone, the investor confidence index advanced to a level of 28.10 in June, compared to a level of 21.00 in the previous month. Markets were expecting the index to record a rise to 26.00.

German factory orders unexpectedly fell in April

In Germany, factory orders dropped by 0.20% on a MoM basis in April, compared to a revised rise of 3.90% in the prior month. Markets were expecting factory orders to advance 1.00%.

Japan’s GDP dropped less than expected in 1Q 2021

In Japan, annualised gross domestic product (GDP) recorded a drop of 3.90% on a QoQ basis in 1Q 2021, less than market expectations for a drop of 4.80%. In the prior quarter, GDP had declined 5.1%
