UK BRC shop price index dropped in December

In the UK, the BRC shop price index recorded a drop of 1.80% on a YoY basis in December, compared to a fall of 1.80% in the prior month.

German unemployment rate remained unchanged in December

In Germany, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 6.10% in December. Markets were expecting unemployment rate to record a steady reading of 6.10%.

German retail sales unexpectedly climbed in November

In Germany, retail sales recorded a rise of 1.90% on a MoM basis in November, compared to market expectations of a drop of 2.00%. Retail sales had recorded a rise of 2.60% in the prior month.

US ISM manufacturing activity index unexpectedly advanced in December

In the US, the ISM manufacturing activity index unexpectedly climbed to a level of 60.70 in December, compared to a reading of 57.50 in the prior month. Market expectations were for the index to ease to 56.50.

Chinese services PMI index fell in December

In China, the services PMI index eased to 56.30 in December, compared to a reading of 57.80 in the previous month
