US initial jobless claims eased in the last week
The seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the US registered a drop to a level of 216.00 K in the week ended 05 January 2019, lower than market expectations of a fall to a level of 226.00 K. Initial jobless claims had recorded a revised level of 233.00 K in the previous week.
Canadian building permits surprisingly advanced in November
Building permits in Canada unexpectedly advanced 2.60% on a MoM basis, in November, compared to a revised drop of 0.40% in the previous month. Market expectation was for building permits to drop 0.50%.
Canadian new housing price index remained flat in November
The new housing price index in Canada remained flat in November on a MoM basis, similar to a flat reading in the previous month. Markets were expecting the index to record an unchanged reading.
