Dealing continues until the final date when the agreed takeover takes place. Even now, a counter-bidder can emerge, causing the share price to move considerably higher. Conversely, somehow the deal could break if (say) the funding that was arranged is no longer available.

I don't know the first thing about takeovers, but surely once the deal is confirmed share trading would cease?

Just like in the BGY thread (EDF takeover agreed) they have started moving dramatically down. I guess the only explanation is that sellers need the money to fund margin calls etc, in which case this is easy money to buy in now. (Possibly the same easy money as BGY?) Surely the bid won't fail here or BGY?

you would have thought that Repsol would have another look at least,... this is at the end of the day a great addition for an established Oiler, I would have thought that either Shell or BP should take this opportunity with all the grief they are having with the Ruskies, why not decamp to safe and politically stable Algeria !!!
It's got to be cheaper, and far bloody easier than going to the South Atlantic...

Perhaps the key difference between Waterford's investments in FPL and EEN is that Emerald was quite quickly able to substantially increase its production, and hence fund (with a bit of fund raising, supported by that production) its E&P work.

It was their money that got FPL's Algerian work going in the first place, which is imo why Waterford were so p*ssed off with the way that things developed after The Sale That Never Was debacle, when the share price was over ten pounds... they're showing a good profit, but not as much imo as it ought to have been. They're actually done better on EEN, and there's still a long way to go on that beauty.

Anyone else see this post from last week? notice they haven't reposted unfortunately, looks like that info was for real, managed to pick some up at 89.9p last week

hiddendepths; it would be interesting to compare the current market cap. with the equivalent figure when the earlier Repsol/whoever deal went all pear-shaped last time. This would tend to remove at least some of the distortion of the dilutions. bob

edit: it was close to £2 billion at the peak. Hmmmm....despite the 'rise', it's still at only some 20% of that, and there's also the high gas price factor to take into a account.
