20 dirt-cheap British stocks experts say could make you a fortune

...

COSTAIN (FTSE ALL-SHARE)
Infrastructure company Costain made losses from 2019 to 2021, but it is now in better business shape, buoyed by a strong order book.

AJ Bell's Russ Mould says the business is seriously undervalued, with a market capitalisation little above the amount of cash it had on its balance sheet at the end of last year. This, he says, provides investors with protection should anything go wrong in the future – and plenty of upside if it can improve the returns it makes on sales.

With a new management team in place and the opportunity to be part of big infrastructure projects such as the Sizewell C nuclear power plant in Suffolk and Network Rail's £40billion spending plans between now and 2029, the company has the potential to grow its profits (£30.9million last year).

Its shares trade at around 77p, and encouragingly it returned to paying shareholders a small dividend last year of 1.2p a share.

What's that you say? Share price? Ah. Hold the Cristal, we'll just do the Grand Dame!

For business as usual. Shame.

Hopefully we're forming a bull flag here on the chart before the next move up some sideways consolidation would be nice

Another mention on the Investors Chronicle website today. It is number three in the acquirers multiple screen which highlights cheap stocks with takeover potential.

We touched 80p, before Wall Street turned red, but Costain still finished blue. Can see the 70s being a think of the past very soon as we move up to the 80s and beyond.

This may or may not be interesting from Renew Holdings Trading Update:

"Simon Ellison will join the Group's senior management team as Rail Sector Director later this month to ensure a smooth transitional period. Simon spent 25 years at Costain in senior leadership roles across Rail and Transportation."

Either a frustrated long term employee or simply normal career progression.

Yep, I will hold out for at least 150p plus ax well. Then, may sell a few and allow some to run. Many with Rolls Royce post 200p sold roo early including me after doubling. At least I kept half and now 420p.So there are lessons about not being too greedy, but also sometimes leaving some to run.

My first purchase was November 2020. I then doubled my holding at 35p 2 years later. It's been a long road..hopefully just the start. I'm not in a hurry to jump ship ll. Well done everyone.

The results were as I expected.

I expect the new margin targets to get reached when all of the old legacy contracts are history.

I have waited a long time for this rise.... :o)

Yes, at least 100p plus. Ultimately if progressive improved results continue to be delivered as we would expect I would imagine this will range 120 to 150p eventually
