Anyone know if MSI Defense Solutions based in the US is the same company as MSI? A quick Google shows they've won a couple of contracts recently, including a $24m award for EAGLS (Electrically Aided Gunnery Laser System) Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS). But maybe this is a different company with an extremely similar name?

It feels like MSI are in a peach of a position with land based and Naval options. I would be surprised if this division was not being looked at closely.

Yes. The carriers have 4 mounts each, but nothing fitted to date. Which makes them completely unsuitable for going anywhere where mass drone attacks might occur (unless they are very closely escorted). But Frigates only have 2 mounts. Which, years ago would have seemed like enough as missiles were to be used to shoot down threats. But missiles at 1m a pop and only 64 of them are unsuitable for mass drone attacks over several days/weeks. If possible, all ships should be retrofitted with multiple mounts (minimum 4). When you think back to WW2 and the number of anti aircraft guns on ships, we need to have the same kind of mindset. Drones will get faster and more lethal. Defence needs to be 'thicker' and more concentrated. 2 guns cannot rule the skies against multiple fast moving targets.

You'd hope so Solooiler, it certainly seems mad to me that for example the Aircraft carriers don't have the specified MSI DS30M cannons fitted in the current drone heavy environment.

Saying that I think MSI's growth will be primarily driven by overseas market orders with defence budgets expanding everywhere.

Budget commitment to defense cannot be a bad thing here for demand domestically

For those who haven’t already, it’s worth taking a look at how many Flight IIA and Flight III (including planned new Flight IIIs at around 2-3 a year) DDG’s there are in the US Navy fleet, albeit the Mod 4 upgrade will be over many years.

No chance of a trading statement imo and without any forecasts no requirement to report any deviations to expectations (as there aren't any!).

Monitoring of the trade press suggests there are a number of contracts likely to have been won that haven't been RNS'd or highlighted in the results.

I've a feeling if they disclose the orderbook with the finals it will surprise to the upside. Revenue is more difficult with the inherent lumpy revenue recognition.

Would be nice to have a trading statement some time from MSI. End of year is near the end of April, but no TS last year and I think we had to wait til results at the end of June .No chance of them ever listing in the USA with there approach to shareholders !Just a little bit of news occasionally would be nice ...

Yes, if correct it would be a nice contract to upgrade 4 frigates (8 canons) from now until 2030. The MSI mount seems to integrate well with cutting edge radar/fire control systems ie Aegis in the US and now this Saab system.

795 was an uncrossing trade so it'll be back above £8 first thing and I guess I will have to buy more! This will be one of the best growth businesses in the UK over the next 2-3 years I think. I would not be surprised it it is capable of doubling over that timeframe.

I write a newsletter where I talk about unloved but interesting UK stocks. I may do MSI at some point but I'm a long way off as there is a lot of niche research that has to be done!

I'm no expert but as discussed before laser effectors are probably a way off operational readiness and also we understand that the Paladin or other MSI mounts are effector agnostic so a laser effector could be mounted in lieu of a conventional cannon. Certainly not something I'm concerned with re: MSI's prospects but happy to hear other people's views.
