West Africa gold juniors ripe for consolidation, suggests broker

Mon 8:59 am by Philip Whiterow Cluff represents the greatest valuation upside potential of the West African gold stocks.
Cluff Gold (LON:CLF, TSE:CFG), Aureus Mining (LON:AUE, TSE:AUE) and Avocet Mining (LON:AVM) are among the best bets in the emerging gold hot spot of West Africa, broker Oriel believes.

The broker, which has just visited the region, said West Africa is an under-explored gold region that is highly prospective for the discovery of multi-million ounce gold deposits.

DJ European Wheat Futures Gain 4% On Fund Buying

LONDON (Dow Jones)--European wheat prices surged 4% Tuesday, rebounding sharply from Monday's three-month lows as buyers swooped on technically oversold markets.

Paris November milling wheat surged EUR7.50, or 4%, to hit an intraday high of EUR195 a metric ton after slumping Monday to its lowest point since mid-March at EUR187/ton. At 1130 GMT, it was trading up 3.7% at EUR194.50/ton.

Traders said the interest was coming from an influx of fund money after the recent fall in prices left markets oversold. At Monday's low, prices had lost more than 25% from their May highs.

"The funds have come back in today," said a Switzerland-based trader. "This will continue for several days now because they will find the arguments to push higher after the big fall."

Others also pointed to rising temperatures in Russia and high rainfall in Ukraine as prompting concerns for the state of crops. June's slump was partially triggered by fears of an influx of cheap Black Sea wheat when Russia lifts its export ban in July so any downgrade there would have a big impact on sentiment.
