Not a bad return here, particularly as the business had only really been treading water for years. Well done. I had some at one time, but sold out a few year's back. Still hold LAS and BISI unfortunately, but hopefully something will happen there as well.

roddiemac, yes I am still here and the offer suits me nicely as well. The offer is comfortably above my highest expectations particularly as this has been dragging on for so long,I was beginning to think that there might be hardly any premium at all.

I also agree with your comment about the share price during the dotcom boom. That was a missed opportunity at the time and I hope I learned a lesson from that.

jon1962,

The price of the shares during the dot com bubble is not a fair comparison , and therefore not relevant.

Grosvener ,

If you take the time to read the statement you will see that the offer has nothing to do with childcare; there is an international software company involved here.

richjp,

I hope you are still out there. I have held a considerable number in my ISA for many years , and have had most of my original investment back in dividends to date .
The offer suits me nicely.

Remember these when they were over 2 quid! Have they done a share split over the years

roddie, yes still here.

The results were decent and it looks to me definitely that their preferred option is to sell it.

With a bit of luck I reckon they might get a premium of fifteen per cent or perhaps a little more compared to the current share price and that would do me nicely.

richjp,

If you are still out there, I think today`s results show that patience will pay here.

richjp,

I am still out there. I too have held these in my ISA for years: a nice source of income: bought between 2001 and 2011.---Previously ,I held 13,000 shares when the dot- com bubble got into overdrive-madness. I sold 6,000 on the 15/12/99 at 178p and 7,000 on the 29/12/99 at268p , almost tripling my money in three months: a reminder of just how silly and gullible investors can be.

Now,in a saner world, patience may well prove to be a virtue here!

Hello - is there anybody out there?

I have been holding on to these for years and have done just about OK because of the divis. Today's news as well as the share price movement is encouraging, so it looks as though there might be a trade sale in the not too distant future.

They either have to sell the business or expand the business by setting up operations in other countries.

yep, FY results due this week or next I think

hopefully the chumps will also include an update on the strategic review

wishful thinking perhaps, but at least the ongoing stock-exchange OPD requirements mean EDP remains open to bid discussions

a non-exec at Sanderson PLC has bought a few more EDP shares recently. Sanderson PLC owns 2.3% of EDP and its directors now now 0.7%.

I bought some this morning, having been on my watch list for a while. All the cash and the yield was just too tempting.

NickK1, great minds -- I was just about to post about Sanderson. Its investment goes back to 2012, when it spent £131k on 292,500 shares = 45p each. Interesting the directors of Sanderson own a further 67,587 shares. The statement issued by Sanderson is an opening position disclosure prompted by the review and stock-exchange rules. If Sanderson subsequently deals in its EDP shares, it will have to issue a revised shareholding update. Anyway, I think it is bullish a sector player holds some EDP stock and might know a few potential bidders -- Sanderson may be too small to bid for EDP itself.

Olesen disclosed 5.51% the other day, so it has bought a few more since its previous August 2015 disclosure.

Ewing Morris meanwhile disclosed 5.15%, so no change there.

Update: Boyles has now disclosed 17.87%, so no change there either.

So far we have the directors and their non-beneficial holdings owning 29%, the 3 value funds owning almost 29%, RBS owning 2% and two private investors owing an aggregate 5%.

roddiemac2,

I believe these are the latest RNS holdings of the three:

Boyles:

Oleson:

Ewing Morris:

I reckon they represent 17.87%, 5.25% and 5.15% respectively.

Each should be issuing an OPD soon to clarify what exactly they own now. A few OPD RNSs have already been issued, including some from who appear to be individual investors (Spencer Crookes and John Rockliff)

Good point about Heller. I always thought it odd that EDP struggled to sell its properties despite Heller running London & Associated Properties and presumably knowing the ins and outs of the sector. Although looking at L&AP's performance over the years, maybe it is not that surprising. Hopefully he is keen to want out and get a good price.

I have decided to add following my musings yesterday.

Michael Heller will be 80 in July and holds 28% of the shares, so it seems that he clearly wants to cash in. I see from the recent RNSs that there have been a few substantial purchases from people that probably have a better idea of what the company is worth than some of us.

I think the company will definitely be sold. It just depends on the price. Nothing is without risk of course but I am hoping for a nice little return in a short period of time.

TMF Mayne,

They don`t show an up to date list of notifiable holders in the printed version of the accounts. can you verify that Boyles Fund, Olsen Value Fund, and T D Securities still hold 17.81%, 5.25% and 5.15% respectively ?

Heller has been a director since 1965 , and non exec chairman since 1977. He is not a young man, and holding 2,571,000 ( beneficial) + 997,500 ( non beneficial), he may be failing and want out.It is not unlikely that he has been calling the shots : too old and too conservative---? He may be responsible for what appears to be lack of "adventure"

I have a holding; moderately profitable due to the dividend payments over many years. I will not be adding. The company has been going nowhere.
