I suspect stegrego is no longer interested here - I don't remember him posting for a good while. It really needs a new thread, and a blue (who can set up a premium thread and moderate it) to set it up. Any volunteers?

I wonder if this BB has plans to move across to VLS, having spoken to ADVFN I understand that this has to be initiated by the author, if not then are there plans for a new thread ?

Was reading last night about the World GTL project in Trinidad and lawsuits that have followed (between World GTL and Trinidad state owned company). Ventech designed the scheme and I'm guessing that their experience of delays and cost overruns (numerous according to one news article)lead them to conclude that there must be a better way...i.e. build in modular form in their own factory with their own people and then ship to site. Thus I guess the desire to partner with Velocys.

Ventech website is interesting and this news article that I found gives background to the $200m equity investment fund and Ventech views on why it is better to fabricate at home. Apologies if posted before but good to review again in light of latest deal with Pinto.

hxxp://www.bizjournals.com/houston/print-edition/2011/10/07/ventech-engineers-reaches-deal-for.html?page=all

The more I think about the Ventech relationship the more I like the idea of it. It will be interesting to see how analysts react post interims briefing from Velocys. EV is still a tiny fraction of the potential market for small GTL - I guess it's a long education process for industry and investors alike but just a small increase in assumptions on market penetration could add 10s of millions to market cap (each 2800bpod plant being so valuable).

Pinto Energy claims the plants location relative to major infrastructure such as the Ashtabula waste water treatment plant, an air separation unit, a gas pipeline, barge and rail transportation, and customers for the plants bi-products make this a great location for a refinery.

The plant will located at the former Union Carbide complex on the south side of Lake Road in Ashtabula Ohio.

Good to see the Ventech alliance bearing fruit. New branding looks clean, website not stunning but good enough and a major improvement on the old one.

Given all this recent US bias perhaps the US listing will come next year or 2015 on the back of a few more orders to convince the market that the technology has gained acceptance.

More news on Monday with the interims !

Poweralternatives: Velocys,The Newly Renamed Oxford Catalysts Group, Is Selected For 2,800 Bpd GTL Plant In Ohio

By Amy McLellan

Roy Lipski, the CEO of AIM-quoted Velocys plc, which until this week traded as Oxford Catalysts Group, has long predicted that the US shale gas revolution would drive demand for the company's modular gas-to-liquids technology. That forecast is being proven right as chemicals and clean fuels developers in the US seek to leverage the historic arbitrage between low gas prices, caused by the glut of shale gas, and high oil prices.

Lipski wasn't the only one to spy this opportunity for the company's proprietary technology which marries super-active catalysts with microchannel chemical reactors to signficantly reduce the footprint and capital costs of a GTL solution. Texan engineering group Ventech also spotted the potential and in November 2012 inked a strategic alliance and made an equity investment in the AIM group. That deal is now starting to convert into real orders for the technology group, which is headquartered in Oxfordshire but has the bulk of its staff in Ohio.

This week Velocys announced that its technology has been selected for a 2,800 barrel per day GTL plant in the Port of Ashtabula, Ohio, where project developer Pinto Energy plans to convert the low cost gas from the Utica and Marcellus shales into high value specialty products, such as solvents, lubricants and waxes, as well as ultra-clean transportation fuels.

Pinto began designing the plant with Ventech in April and has now filed the project's air and water permit applications. The aim is to complete design this year and ahead of full project sanction in H1 2014, with mechanical completion in late 2015 and start-up in early 2016. Funding is in place for engineering and permitting work with construction financing set to close in Q1 2014. Pinto has an 80 acre site at Ashtabula and envisages this as being the first phase in a multi-train facility. Indeed Pinto chairman guy Dove says he anticipates this will be the "first of many" small scale GTL projects in North America.

Velocys is also in the running for a number of other proposed plants that are now moving towards a decision to build milestone. This includes a potential 1,400 bpd GTL plant for NASDAQ-quoted Calumet Specialty Product Partners at its Karns City, Pennsylvania facility. A decision to build is expected this year and the contract could be worth more than US$30 million over the next 20 years.

It's not just the shale gas opportunity that makes North America a key market for Velocys. Funding opportunities means are also putting the company in the running for biomass-to-liquids projects. Its technology has been selected for a mooted commercial 1,100 bpd BTL plant operated by Red Rock Biofuels in Oregon. The plant, which has attracted funding from the US Department of Defence, would convert 170,000 tons per year of woody biomass into 1,100 bpd of liquid biofuels. Detailed engineering work will take about nine months, at which point the developer will apply for a US$70 million DoD grant to support construction.

There are BTL projects in the UK too, of course. Last year Velocys was was selected as FT technology provider to GreenSky London, Europe's first commercial scale sustainable jet fuel facility. The project will convert 500,000 tonnes per annum of London's waste, currently sent to landfill, into 1,100 bpd of low carbon jet fuel, 1,100 bpd of ultra-low sulphur FT diesel and green naphtha, as well as renewable power. British Airways has committed to buy the green jet fuel for ten years, a commitment worth US$500 million. Pre-front end engineering and design work for the plant has begun and the project partners are eyeing a start date of 2015.

ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP - Local officials are excited about all the jobs a new refinery will bring to Ashtabula County within the next two years.

Velocys Inc. of Plain City, partnering with Pinto Energy of Houston, plan to build a refinery that will convert natural gas into diesel fuel on an 80-acre parcel on Lake Road, across from Plant C, said Brian Anderson, executive director Growth Partnership for Ashtabula County.

The proposed facility would create 30 permanent jobs, 400 construction jobs, 100 indirect jobs and cost about $300 million to start, according to Anderson and reported Monday on The Columbus Dispatch's website.

"They are very good paying jobs," Anderson said.

Growth Partnership has been in dialogue with these companies for two years, encouraging them to come to Ashtabula County, where there is access to rail, land and water.

"It's a prime place," Anderson said of the proposed location on Lake Road. "We are definitely excited."

Joseph Pete Sr., chairman of the Ashtabula Township trustees, said he's very excited about the project being built in the township.

"Any time jobs come, it's good for the whole community," he said.

Trustee Bambi Paulchel said, "It's great for the whole county not just the township."

Trustee Stephen McClure said township officials were elated and they will do whatever they can to help them along the way.

"It's fantastic," he said.

Ashtabula County Commissioner Joe Moroski said the commissioners have not been given an official notice on the project.

The facility, using a process called Fischer-Tropsch, would convert natural gas into diesel, according to the news report. The refinery could produce 2,800 barrels per day, with the potential to produce 7,000 barrels as demand warrants, officials said to the Dispatch.

Officials said the refinery would be operational by the end of 2015.

Shame this rise didn't happen tomorrow on the name change, it would attracted some new punters. Still at least we finally get a commercial sounding name. Lets hope more to come now that the company seems to be gaining traction.
