Makinbuks -

Thanks for suggestion; will have a look at them, another one I've not heard of. In the meantime, however, I am quite encouraged by what I have found out about RPC. Might buy more of those.

bouleversee, how about MBH? Totally different industry but similarly mature business

I'm gutted that I'm having to take this off my watch list, without having bought the bl@&dy shares

One of my better long term choices and will be sorry to lose them. I know nothing about RPC and don't have a clue where to put the cash. Nothing appeals at the moment.

Certainly like their acquisitions RPC. As a long term holder of BPI I will be disappointed to see it go. Its always difficult to find long term value to replace such holdings. Had similar feelings losing Amlin a few months back

Don't forget GWMO drilling soon and only £0.9m market cap. With £0.8m cash. Will go ballistic on any buying pressure

Read Edison's note on BRITISH POLYTHENE INDUSTRIES (BPI), out this morning, by visiting hxxps://www.research-tree.com/company/GB0007797425

"British Polythene Industries’ (BPI’s) AGM update confirmed the strong start to the year in Q1 continued in April, slightly tempered by some upward pressure in polymer prices latterly . The company has also announced a proposed transfer of activity from its Sevenoaks site to another group facility. The associated £1m exceptional charge in the current year will be matched by the annual profit uplift in subsequent years once completed. This..."

Glad to see this board is deader than the dead parrot sketch..

Good AGM comment on trading but looks mostly down to currency/input price trends which tempers the enthusiasm. Trying to get excited but long term looks sound enough.

Read Edison's note on BRITISH POLYTHENE INDUSTRIES, out this morning, by visiting hxxps://www.research-tree.com/company/GB0007797425
"British Polythene Industries (BPI) has a seasonally stronger H1 trading pattern and a positive Q1 trading update allows us to upgrade estimates again, having done so after the FY15 results. The previously announced disposal of a Chinese subsidiary has completed on slightly better terms than previous guidance. Despite this progress, BPI’s rating remains stubbornly in single-digit P/E territory ..."

Never mind, the 11th March does look right so Ex-Div is probably the 10th. I must say I'm looking forward to the annual report to give a bit of meat to the bare bones of the prelim statement.

Can anyone work out when the ex-dividend date is? In note 4 they state it "will be paid to shareholders on the register at close of business on 10th May" then in the Chairman's statement is states that it "will be paid to shareholders on the register at the close of business on 11th March"

As they are talking about the record date, neither of those look right to me.

IMO BPI's contracts are drafted to adjust to changes in raw material prices, whether they move up or down. That preserves margins at a predictable level whilst staying competitive.

Anyway, I sold out in November & kept my position in FOUR instead - had to chose.......
& got it right for once!

ygor706 - The answer to your question is that although the world is awash with oil & very little demand. The polymer suppliers deliberately cut back on availability of resin into Western Europe knowing whatever demand there is will always outstrip supply, hence keeping prices up. Eventually lower priced raw material will find its way from other parts of the world at cheaper prices which will force down costs. I expect this to happen during the next couple of months.

Don't quite understand why input material costs are holding up on the BPI buy side but with oil prices heading for $20 a barrel and Iran coming into the Middle Eastern equation that cant go on forever.

Very dull but worthy results. IMO the best has been had here,
so I sold the rest of my holding today.

Apart from that aspect, I'm getting further & further into cash nowadays.

bbd - you mean those all-year leaves that trees have taken to growing?!

Seriously, quite right too.
There are continent-sized piles of plastic in the sea creeping into the
ecosystem & so the food system 'cos plankton gobble it up when it has
disintegrated.
Then we wonder why cancer is on the rise! Crazy...

SP doesn't think so, but we're still waiting for that breakout...

Do the new regs. re plastic carrier bags have any implications for BPI or is this not their bag, so to speak?

BPI British Polythene industries, featured here last week, breaking out and heading towards an all time high. My share price target is broker Investech's target of 800p initially.
