spiv 1,

I wasn't suggesting XLD don't have prospects, just questioning the validity of James possessing price sensitive information not currently in the market.

Clearly if he is saying news "should" start to come in at the end of January, (a short time in a resource stock), he has an angle. If you hold, you will continue to hold, if you don't, and are discussing the stock with him, there is a chance you will buy on such news.

All IMHO of course.

Thanks for advice guys. To be fair James did not say go out and buy xld. Quite the opposite. He said there was not likely to be news short term but that newsflow should start to come through towards the end of Jan. He also said that Petra Diamonds took a £1m stake in xld (Petra are exploring the Alto Cuilo site nearby so I guess they should have a good idea about diamond prospects in the area). Well, one to watch anyway.

spiv 1,

I wouldn't pay too much attention to what "James at Cornhill" says, I doubt he knows about any news, as he would be in possession of price sensitive information.

I bought FGML through Cornhill, and every time I wanted to sell they told me the same sort of thing, and eventually I had to be fairly blunt to make them sell my stock. Then it tanked!

One of the problems of using this type of broker, IMHO, is that they pursuade you to buy in the first place, then try and prevent you from selling by saying there is "buying" and "news coming", and it can become a battle of wits.

IMHO the thing to do is if you decide you want to sell, insist you want to sell, and ignore what the dealer is saying, otherwise they will hold you in.

Good idea tm. I spoke to James at Cornhill and he seems to think there is going to be newsflow on xld towards the end of jan. Think I will probably open up a small position around mid Jan.

mdchand can you copy and paste to save the hassle of having to register
ps do you think that we should start a board for all the cornhill pre ipos instead of going onto the ones which have already been issued

Thanks md. I've gone for 15,000 Belitung Zinc. If they ipo at 40p I'll be more than happy! Cornhill certainly seem an approachable bunch on the phone. Provided the region stays politically stable and the China/India growth story and hence high mineral price continues then I'm hopeful we will all make a good turn on Belitung. Good luck to all.

spiv - like most brokers, they punt the good, the bad and the ugly. i was lucky to get involved with MTL and have done very nicely. Also think MOG will come good. You have to take each ipo on its merits and invest accordingly.

Admin wise - no worries buying / selling or wiring profits etc.

tmcooey,

From what I heard, they had a tough time getting the placing away, and perhaps the proof of that is that there is clearly no aftermarket for placees to sell into.

I also think people are wising up, and not prepared to give an easy profit to those priveliged to be in the placing, most prices fall back eventually, it's just a question of patience.

With NML proving what a tough place Angola can be, I for one will be waiting until there is something more concrete on the table before considering a purchase.

I'm grateful that Cornhill didn't ring me now, (although I was annoyed at the time) as I would have bought, and possibly used funds that have done better elsewhere.

Nice to see Tim George pitch in with 50,000 shares at 45p. He didn't have to do that - statement of confidence in the co.

Yes it would appear there isn't an aftermarket.
