it never seems to gain any traction -a serial disappointer. I don't have a big holding but wish I'd never heard of this company.Cannot summon nay enthusiasm to sell it -perhaps thats the answer.

Seems to me that Wolfson is pretty much an IP machine and RnD department that just about keeps itself ticking over by selling stuff occasionally.Fairly typical of a company that has been spun out of a university. It will get bid for eventually, especially if they're able to make a profit next year..

wouldn't it be nice if someone made a bid for this pile of cr*p.

I agree Pedro - two more big deals reported late after hours as well - looked like buys.

I reckon that after the last disappointing update and big fall in sp, they became very vulnerable. If someone is interested in getting a bargain then this is the time to do it.

Just as likely though that folks are recognising that the fall was overdone and that there is a bounce back due.

Definitely something going on.. at least 5% of the company traded last week, but no RNS.They can't have vanished into thin air..

I've been watching the spread on this over the last couple of days and there's been some interesting movement.

Looks like the volume of trades is up. Interesting trade reported late yesterday after hours - something like an 85,000 buy at a couple of pence above the going rate at the time. Spread has been widening and then contracting this morning. I'm guessing that there is some interest in the background. Hopefully, we're passed the bottom and that we'll see this continue to rise.

Same.. this is a simple issue of sentiment at the moment.Ok, so the company has made a small loss for the last few years. They have no debt, and even a reasonable amount of cash on hand. Cost savings are on the way, and it won't take much to turn a profit next year imo.Just a waiting game.

I did buy some last year and have been out and in since. Couldn't make my mind up but I'm hoping to be in for the long term.

@ jimrclark

Apart from the FTSE, it seems to trade on ISDX, which used to be the Plus stock exchange until it was eventually sold to ICAP. It might trade elsewhere, but I don´t know where.

Press the W tab to see WLF´s trading

Interesting to note the spread on ISDX wrt WLF.

I hope that helps

@jimrclark, "Perhaps, adding a cutting edge to their management team will bring quicker results." sounds like you are touting for the job ;o)

IMHO, the problem for WLF, the scribblers, the city boys and indeed WLF´s figures never truely overcame the loss of AAPL. Although the problem for WLF was when it had AAPL the city was worried about the potential impact should it lose AAPL. I wounder whether the same worry still persists now with Samsung.

Regardless of what the future may hold, I find it difficult to believe that WLF will ever reach the dizzy heights of 500p again, only time and ingenuity will tell.

Anyway thanks for the chat jimclark, I´ll now retreat back to being a lurker... my appropriate place I believe.

I agree with your sentiments regarding MH's presentation style, via con.

What I take from the messages given is that Q4 2013 will continue to be depressed (as they have already signalled) and that the upturn should begin in Q1 2014. If it doesn't happen then, I think MH's time will be over.

However, there is clearly some evidence for optimism given the spread of customers (existing and new) and I expect, if the ownership stays the same, that MH will keep his job.

I hope that, as well as creating great products and getting them accepted by customers, they have a complete and ruthless approach to the manufacture and supply of their products and any contracts associated with that.

I'm relatively new to wlf - the impression that I've got is that they're a very clever bunch of chaps who have created/are creating great products but they haven't yet cracked the challenge of making money. Perhaps, adding a cutting edge to their management team will bring quicker results.

Alternatively, they will be bought over by someone who will make money from them. aimho!

I agree GPedro2 - q4 is already built into the price.

sp should have now bottomed out. There's very good potential here. Reducing costs and increasing sales in 2014 should see the share price rise significantly. I'm hoping for a 20-30p increase before Christmas and my target for the next 12 months is an optimistic 250p.

I do think that they are vulnerable until they give a positive update - that doesn't look like it will be until we see the Q1 2014 update. There's plenty of time for someone to grab a nice bargain before then. I didn't listen in to the cc but if, as via con implies, MH was hesitant in his responses, I think that his coat is on a shoogly hook!!

Just listened in on the CC. Looks like there will be little happening until the end of Q1 2014 when new products should start to make a difference. Breakeven looks promising for next year, which hints towards profitability.

I haven´t lisened in on one of MH´s CCs for a while and as expected he seems a knowledgable and nice chap, unfortunately his oratory skills are akin to barrow boys using "you know" ever few seconds when answering questions. Eloquence garners belief and credability whilst the use of "you know"...you know, when answering questions is redundant, hence the question. If they knew, they wouldn´t need to ask.. you know...umm, the question. Confidence in what a CEO has to say is dependent on their confident delivery of facts and beliefs, not erms and umms and you knows.

Anyway, WTF do I know, he earns more than me !!

The Company previously announced that, due to customer product cancellations and some slippage of key programmes into 2014, revenue in Q4 2013 is expected to be in the range of $40m to $50m. Current customer order patterns indicate that revenues are trending towards the lower half of this range

For me that is effectively another profit warning.

Results are pretty much as expected then.

Could this be the end of the bad news?

They clearly have very good products and are making good inroads to major electronic manufacturers, including into China. The slowdown has been disappointing - I'm guessing that Samsung and the like will be getting better at their own projections and inventories will be better managed going forward.

Let's get 2013 out of the way and 2014 will be a much brighter year.

The cost savings are helpful. I'm wondering though whether anyone will be running their ruler over wlf. A company which is making good products but isn't yet making money seems to be an attractive proposition. Having said that, I reckon that the existing management team has only got one more chance to turn this around!

Hopefully, today signals the turnaround - Samsung, I believe, is our biggest customer so, if they're expecting higher sales, that can only be good for WLF.

I ended up with an S3 because I needed an Android phone for business. Had an iphone before that but I wouldn't go back to the iphone - love the S3 and will be upgrading to an S4 in 6 months.
