05/12/2014 00:07 | A belated happy birthday Cliveas. Summer Lightning is a very fine brew from the Hop Back Brewery and is on my list to make. Old Speckled Hen also but its about 5.8% ABV - so stronger than Fuller's ESB which is my favourite. Spanish brandy is under rated - as is Turkish brandy. Have you ever tried The Grand Duke of Alba Fut? The Grand Duke and I used to fly together on Iberian Airlines and he made the long haul flights a much mellower experience. Mrs L complained about the smell of hot weetabix in the kitchen today but it was a lot of fun and so I imagine that Santa will be bringing me lots of gardening and home brew pressies - assuming that he has had good reports of me having been a good boy this year. Speaking of being good, I wonder what the Numpties are up to. Anyway, the thread seems to have enjoyed the diversion into home brewing. Quite nice weather here today also. | harold larwood

04/12/2014 09:36 | Good morning all, Harold, overweight on our money. Single malt or Spanish brandy are my tipples, I used to drink Macky & vimto now that was smooth. | futhark
03/12/2014 22:40 | Fut, what?? Don't like beer??? Nectar. Mind you, with what the Numpties intend to leave us with we will all be on meths. Played golf in glorious weather conditions today and really enjoyed it. The grain arrived today so will start brewing up tomorrow if the weather holds. Haven't had time to look at the Chancellor's Statement but saw our NED, Sir TB, on the news clips looking the size of a zeppelin. Too many lunches me thinks. | harold larwood
03/12/2014 09:41 | Good morning Fut and all nice and sunny here in Dereham. Well Harold buying crushed malt from a local miller that is taking it serious I remember my mate collecting as many thick brown coloured bottles the ones with the clamped cap like the ones used on Corona fizzy drink bottles apparently the beer ferments better in the dark so he said.I have a friend now who collects the empty Magnus cider bottles for his beer. | wilburylover1
03/12/2014 09:05 | Good morning all, Harold I can't stand the taste of beer. Frosty start here but sunny now. | futhark
02/12/2014 22:18 | Wilbury, back in the day when I was a student I had a try at home brew and it was disgusting - worse than Watney's Red Barrel, and that is saying something!! However, a friend brews his own full mash beer and it is sensational so I thought that I might take it up as a hobby and, as I am into DIY, I am making a lot of my own kit so it works out much cheaper. Add to that, I can buy the crushed malt from a local miller and it works out at a fraction of the price of the raw grain bought from a home brew shop. I will be able to knock out a pint, before absorbing the cost of equipment set up, for about 9p. Last time I had a pint of ESB it cost me £3.50. Hic!! | harold larwood
02/12/2014 20:39 | Ha Ha very funny Harold 40 pints should see you through Christmas and the New Year nice one takes me back a few years when me and a mate did some brewing can turn out some strong stuff if you get it right. | wilburylover1
02/12/2014 17:32 | Wilbury - you are wrong. There is something brewing - my home made beer. Should have 40 pints ready for the New Year - I'm brewing the recipe for Fuller's ESB. Cold and windy here today. | harold larwood
02/12/2014 16:50 | Pop into the Garrick for a pint of Shakesbeer Gis, that should warm you up!! | scaleyman
02/12/2014 16:45 | Evening all. Brrr it's cold up here in Stratford upon Avon, not used to this. Well Brown sounds like he could be related to the numpties. Still no news. How many years are we to endure this, surely they have sorted out this other problem by now? Really peed off with it today and I don't normally moan do I? | gismo
02/12/2014 10:57 | Good morning all, the only good that Brown did was keep us out of the Euro. Overcast and cold here. | futhark
02/12/2014 10:05 | Oh well that didn't last long raining now. | wilburylover1
02/12/2014 09:37 | Morning Harold yes very quiet seems like nothing is even brewing. Weather here is very dull very still but at least its not raining. Oh yes,Mr Brown retiring our wonderful ex-Chancellor the one who sold a massive chunk of our gold reserves for next to nothing and a few months later the price more than doubled. | wilburylover1
02/12/2014 09:11 | We are all very quiet these days!! Overcast and windy here. A day in the garden where the new picket fence has earned major brownie points from Mrs L this week. Speaking of Brownie's - I see that the former Chancellor and PM has decided to retire from Parliament. Wouldn't it be great if he were to publicly apologise for messing up the UK economy before he leaves. The news came just after it was announced that the war criminal, Bliar, has been awarded a gong by Save the Children. Was this multi millionaire recognised for his services to children in, say, Iraq? | harold larwood
27/11/2014 23:32 | Yes thank you it was lovely. | futhark
