Good newsflow
I think it's just general market sentiment which is dragging the price down.

Why has this:

caused a price-drop?

Well - let's see if 260p is the support level.
Maybe a buildup to Bill Emhiser coming on board.

Ouch - that drop was uncalled for!
The interim dividend was last Wednesday so I wonder what has caused the sudden correction today?
So much for my hope of an underpin @ 280p

Inevitable pullback, hoping 280 will be a new support level.

A 4yr high - maybe on the back of the general market rise but also on expectations.

Hope for a breakout here, a new chief executive may help push us up.

"A new chief executive at Whatman (whose appointment is "days, not weeks" away) ought to put the focus back on sales performance says the Independent. "

The rise today looks solid - one would hope after the City boys have digested the H1 results.

Now another leg up would be nice - this may happen if the City likes the imminent announcement of a new CEO.

Whatman Up; Shares Seen As Oversold -Analyst

Thursday, August 18, 2005 12:07:52 PM ET
Dow Jones Newswires

1559 GMT [Dow Jones] Whatman (WHM.LN) finishes +2.7% at 268p amid stronger than usual volume, probably as the market now sees the shares as "oversold" says analyst. "The shares have had a weak run for no reason whatsoever, and have now hit some kind of support level. It's no more interesting than that" he adds. (PBA)

From a chartist perspective I would like to see another spike up @ support from here (>260p).
Newsflow on a replacement CEO would be good.

Ten green directors standing on the wall,
ten green directors standing on the wall,
& if one green director should accidently fall,
There'll be nine green directors standing on the wall!

or alternatively.....

I know an old Chairman who swallowed a Technical Manager,
he swallowed the Technical Manager to catch the Marketing Manager,
he swallowed the Marketing Manager to catch the Directors,
he swallowed the Directors to catch the Divisional Presidents

...I don't know why, perhaps he'll fly

OK, OK I've gone a bit loopy ;o)

I wish I was optimistics as some of you, I do have faith in the technology but I am not sure about the fact that 3 CEO's, 2 CFO's and several Managers have gone since Bob Thian entered the picture, the prior CEO also "let go" one CFO, 2 Divisional Presidents, 3 Directors , a number of Marketing and Technical Managers. I am still holding on for a while because Thian seems to have a way with words with the City and Institutional stakeholders.

Nice bounce which has now risen above 270 again.
Certainly seems like a hidden gem.
