Nice to see up trend intact. Sunday Times had WHM as no. 25 out of 50 "hidden gems of the stockmarket" .

"Bob Thian, executive chairman, said yesterday that looking for a new chief executive was "very draining" and added that he thought that taking another job after accepting this one was "appalling, personally".

Let's see where the support level is now as the City seemed to like the Haines appointment. The level will demonstrate the true value of WHM's progress to date.
Better the chinless wonder went now rather than after September.

Whatman Loses CEO-Elect; Selloff Overdone

Wednesday, July 20, 2005 3:51:41 AM ET
Dow Jones Newswires

0734 GMT [Dow Jones] Whatman's (WHM.LN) statement revealing its CEO-elect, Tim Haines, has decided to accept a different position will not impact the core business, says analyst. Thus sees selloff as overdone, leaving a buying opportunity. Says Haines' decision as more a reflection of the attractions of working in a VC partnership than any negative implications on Whatman. Does not expect too long a delay before a new candidate is announced, "as there were a number of people who came second" in the selection process. Whatman -3.9% at 253.25p. (PBA)

Nice article in The Scientist, on Whatman's role in dry storage of DNA and proteins

Nothing we here didn't already know, but spreading the word in communities where it matters.

Reckon the price went down initially due to a flat first half - however, future hopes seemed to have reversed sentiment!

Date: 12 July 2005

LONDON (ShareCast) - Chemical products maker Whatman is hoping for a stronger performance in the second half as it gets new leadership.

Whatman sales started slowly this year after it lost its chief executive and two regional sales managers. New CEO Tim Haines was announced in May and is set to join Whatman in September.

The group has also appointed a number of management positions, under which the sales teams of Whatman and Schleicher & Schuell have been integrated with sales performance expected to improve in the second half.

"This was evidenced by a strong end to Q2. For the first half as a whole, sales of £55.8m are broadly flat on 1H 2004, restated for the acquisition of Schleicher & Schuell and excluding the effect of exchange," said Whatman.

Bob Thian, Chairman of Whatman, said, "Although revenues and profits in the first half were lower overall than we hoped, we saw an encouraging end to the half with a much improved performance in June".

Well the market seems to be reacting well (in the end) to this news. This really is beginning to lok like a company that has well and truly turned itself around. Could be some big gains to be had here.

Nice to see the helm has been steadied. It looks like they may deliver more than they promised. "The synergy benefits in 2005 are expected
to be materially greater and to cost less than previously announced."

Has anyone noticed that everday this share opens with a wide spread, but then the bid gradually creeps up. Happening every day at the moment, and bringing with it some small, steady rises.

I'm no expert but that chart is showing a beautiful trend at the moment too.
