Nice buy.

Berenberg: Changing Vodafone is a different investment case

Vodafone (VOD) is a different investment case to a year ago but there are still operational risks, says Berenberg.

Analyst Carl Murdock-Smith retained his ‘hold’ recommendation and increased the target price from 75p to 78p on the Citywire Elite Companies AAA-rated telecoms giant, which climbed 1.1% to 69.4p yesterday. The shares have shed half their value over the past five years.

Murdock-Smith said chief executive Margherita Della Valle gave a ‘frank assessment of Vodafone’s “need to change”’ at last year’s annual results, ‘and changed it has’.

‘With completion of the sale of its Spanish operations imminent, the UK merger approval process well underway, and the planned Italian disposal announced earlier this month, Vodafone now has a different investment case to that of a year ago,’ he said.

However, Murdock-Smith noted that ‘operational risks are significant in the coming quarters, such as German cable TV unbundling and managing any possible dyssynergies from the smaller ongoing footprint, while foreign exchange risk remains high, mostly in relation to Turkey and Egypt’.

Not this time Philanderer. It is like Ghost Busters... gonna be a big bang when all those MA lines cross at exactly the same point. The last time they all got pretty close it was pretty catastrophic... this time I hope it is a reversal.

Just a quick question to the more knowledgeable on here. The Italy deal for 8bln euro, that's Vodafone Italy lock stock and barrel to Swisscom. Does that include any debt held? Will any debt held by VOD Italy go straight to reduce the headline net debt figure when the sale goes through??Did VOD Italy hold any of the debt?

the key point to look at in the above chart is the 76 months of outflows out of the last 91 months since March 2016...
Did anything major take place in 2016??

Note the article (journalist licence perhaps) is absent on any detail. Niel's higher offer no doubt can with a web of strings and arrows skewed very much in his favour having lost a sizeable fortune on his investment, 2 Valle cannot/could not have made and ratified the lower offer in isolation , this will have required FULL board approval. The lower accepted offer I suspect was cleaner swifter and presented the greatest NPV for the company

i agree isis. is the 3vod tie up a good thing though? I always thought vod is getting the raw end of things having only 51% control despite it being far the bigger of the two. i'm totally unsure!! however I'm not too sad. che sere sera!

Isis you need to understand your FIX tags better.. every order derived from an algo order will have a custom tag (to denote strategy type) which generates the automated trade condition you are referring to
