Ah yes. There we are another 250k at 335p. Thats no small deal!

Arbt cannot keep drifitng up. Soon they will be in backwardation. How long has it been since we had a 5p spread?

EDIT:

Ah - I missed that it was a Cross.

Mine Gott (or something like that).

ARbt must really want some stock. Bidding at 330p vs 320 (4MMs) and 2 at 315p. A whole 10p premium (3p up from yesterday's 327p).

Given their move I would expect to see further Ds later in the day.

Darron

PS - Gorse - Yes the old man was a City Hall visitor but since he and my mum are both Mackems, they tried to keep a low profile.... Still remember the days of going to Roker at the age of 2 sat on my grandad's shoulders.

So the Pru have increased their position from 4,188,992 (10.208%) as of 15/11/04 to 4,271,992 (10.4%) according to the RNS issued ater hours last night. 83,000. The increase wasnt specified specifically but was due to a change in registration details of Pru and their sub accounts. So it didnt require a 1% disclosure but did reveal the increase. At least we know where some of the stock went.

Again a quiet day and then a burst of bigger delayed deals - all buys by the look of them:

50k and 4 lots of 12.5k. All at 335p (the ask at the time) all within a couple of minutes (14:48 - 14:49) - that makes me think they went to the same buyer.

I was out last night so didnt see how the price closed, espec level 2.

Staggered to see that ARBT is so far ahead of the pack on the bid. 327p vs 4 others at 320p. They have gone up 4p on the bid in 24 hours whereas the rest have stagnated. They must be working a large order.

Nice selection of acts youve seen Gorse. My dad hs told me of some of the acts he saw in his youth in Newcastle. I must say Im pretty jealous since Im much more into my "old" music (as my 14 yo daughter keeps telling me!) For me the cold of the concert was worth it just for the Jools Holland/Eric Clapton session at the end. Classic - both geniuses on their respective instruments.

Still, back to VTC. Some decent chunks going through again throughout the day. It just looks so odd - no real blomues as per usual and then chunky deals. A pattern that has been seen for the last three weeks or so and has been accompanied by a good hike in the price.

Tsunami Concert - missed it as was watching BBC4, enjoying Pennies From Heaven and
a Michael Douglas film, The President ... I reckon I'd swap my VTC shares* for a weekend with Annette Bening (I think that's her name) ... well, OK, two hours.

I'm a different generation ... must be one of a diminishing number who actually saw Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Sam Cooke in concert (Newcastle City Hall).

* But not my Ben Bailey or Fayrewood!

Ah LSFM. Greetings over here.

Excellent weekend thanks. WEnt to the Tsunami Concert in Cardiff - bloody brilliant - even if it meant getting home at 2am. Then, of course, My wife's sister in law gave birth so that took care of the rest of the weekend (and any chance of sleep).

Need coffee and nicoteen if Im going to stay awake today, especially if I am watching the Mogadon that is VTC.

Ah, another 75k at 320.33p. Thats odd. Two of them (same size and price) went through on Friday but werent counted in the volumes. This one hasnt been counted either.

Hi Gorse

Hmmm - djpreston eh? Well, I think I know what he was said. I am that person. I just use a different login on ADVFN.

The Level 2 this morning is tighter again with only 2 left offering at 335p as opposed to 3 at doors on Friday. Still only Arbt on the bid at 323p.

Nice to see Im not talking to myself anymore.

Regards

Darron

I think you're onto something. I had looked at this a few weeks back ... Now, after similar thoughts to yours being expressed by broker DJPreston on Paulypilot's Pub on TMF, I bought in on Wednesday.

So Im talknig to myself but what the hell. I always was a bit odd.

There is the reason for the moves on L2 this morning, two 75ks reported and another move up with ARBT at 323 bid. 3 on offer at 335 with one moving out.

Steady accumulation of stock since the start of the year. When will it become evident?

After a quiet day yesterday with no real movement other than a gradual improvement n depth on Level 2, we have the interesting scenario today of no trades whatsoever then a 5p rise in the price and still no trades.

What is noticeable is that the MMs all moved up together to 320p (4 of the MMs anyway) so that makes me think that there is a buy order being worked. Will be interested to see what gets reported later.

Im convinced that there is something afoot and its likely a bid.

The buying has continued since I posted on 17th with some sizeable buys 3 lots of 100k for instance and then today we have a fairly concentrated set of chunky deals at the same time. Someone is accumulating stock and it is finally being noticed with the price up 4.5% today.

My hunch - VC money with Carnwath involved. Note how the RNS re her departure gave no reason and was very abrupt? Dont forget the price started to move after she left.

My god. Life on the old VTC board!

Have to say that this is an interesting one and (unfortunately) we have held it through the slump, caught mostly by the currency problems. However, the group is, as Sigmund says, fundamentally good with solid cashflow and niche products.

What I have found interesting is that Harris have been increasing their stake and the volume has been rising, taking the price back over 300p. Ive often figured VTC as being a good buy out candidate for refloating in due course. I dont know, but the recent action in the price looks suspicious to me.

thanks for your comments. I agree with all you say and I hope to buy at around 250p to 260p

3 main concerns:
1- last report made reference to impact of adverse exchange rates, a situation which is likely to have deteriorated in last 6 months
2- pension deficit. personally find it very difficult to assess this from the data which us poor saps have to make do with, but which firms could you count on to have a healthy pension position these days?
3- the hefty dividend is not covered and surely should be cut, but dare the board do this and risk removing an incentive to hold the shares? either way, not an attractive prospect
added to this, have to be cautious about reasons for alison carnwath leaving and the economic mess in the USA.
therefore see further short term weakness down to 260p and potentially lower, possibly worth shorting.
however fundamentally a good company and would be a buyer at lower levels

seems to be very cheap . Is it a buy, or do I sense a profit warning on the way. I think I will just watch for now.

Shareholder for 27 years.

Currently not one of VTC's finest spells but I look forward to better days.

I bought as a growth stock, but consider it ex-growth now and I'm happy to hold as an excellent income stock.

Whats going on at VTC? Where is all the volume coming from?

Vitec is dirt cheap. I expect the price to fall some more when the interims are announced in Sept 01 - but fall on a low volume.

The most likely outcome is that management try to take Vitec private (with debt paid off quickly thank to sttong cashflow in mature markets)

I bought some moer after the recent PW.

The institutions are not that interested since it's very hard to buy a meaningful amount of shares without moving the price.

Oh dear profit warning.

Price appears to have been knocked down 170p in one step.

Could be cheap but I don't know enough to tell.

A director sold 35,000 shares at about 533p only a fortnight ago.
