Why don't you ask the company and find out mikey_b :o)) I'm pretty sure no-one would bother putting out a news release as above unless it was meaningful in some sense - certainly to clients and potential clients if not the stock market, which would explain why there's no RNS.

Talking of which...I note a news release from the VDI web site now. Is this the first "official" confirmation that the $250m contract is re Abidjan airport in Ivory Coast?

Here's some opinions on the airport - surprisingly good considering the historical political situation there, which seems to be improving (though upcoming elections are crucial):

"African Airport Aims for TSA Clearance
John Barham, International Editor
12/11/2007 -

A Canadian company has won a 25-year contract to raise security standards at West Africa's Abidjan airport, which government officials hope will enable it to win TSA certification and turn the airport into an international hub for the continent.

Toronto-based Visual Defence and its subsidiary AviSecure won a passenger safety and security screening contract with the government of Ivory Coast to install security systems at the airport and implement new security management standards. The Abidjan airport lacks TSA certification, which prevents it from handling direct flights to the U.S. Travelers between North America and West Africa have to fly via London or Paris.

"We need to do some major training to meet TSA standards," says Visual Defence CEO Dagan Sadeh. "It's not just about security, it's about everything, like complying with regulations and arriving at meetings on time. The challenge is to adapt to the western pattern of work."

The project's revenues, estimated at $140 and $250 million through 2032, are tied to passenger traffic. The more passengers transit through the airport, the more money Visual Defence will make. Winning TSA certification is the key to raising revenues, because this would turn Abidjan into the only airport in West Africa with direct flights to the US.

Ivory Coast was torn apart by coups and a two-year civil war. The airport was overrun during the fighting, and was only returned to government control after French troops recaptured it. Traffic fell by one-third to 800,000 passengers a year. Peace returned in March 2007 with the formation of a unity government.

Sadeh says technology will play a key role in instilling a new security culture at the airport. As in many African airports, well-connected travelers access aircraft directly, dispensing with security checks, customs, and passport control. Employees generally ignore security procedures. Africa has the world's worst air safety record mainly because aircraft are poorly maintained, but also because of inadequate airport infrastructure and security.

Visual Defence's system will force passengers and staff to observe security procedures. Pushing into a secure area in the terminal or breaching perimeter security would automatically trigger alarms. "An integrated command and control center will help people understand procedures and implement policies," says Sadeh. "The system will make life tougher for people who want to get around it."

Visual Defence is a security convergence company. Its Common Management Platform is a software system that ties all security systems into a single common interface. A workflow engine runs in the background to allow staff to manage security procedures. The project includes risk assessment, security strategy development, and procuring, installing, and integrating security technology. The company will also hire, train, and manage airport security personnel.

AviSecure Inc., a 50-50 joint venture owned by Visual Defence and SkyLink Security (Canada) Inc., will manage the project directly. AviSecure handles airport security outsourcing projects around the world."

I don't wish to knock this but, what is motomesh ready? Motomesh is a wimax network, to be ready you just need the right plug (plug = 802.xx wireless card, like on any laptop today). This is the Motorola Canopy network, I think, as used by the police to support the IND based solutions they have deployed.

More good news - validation from Motorola:

"Visual Defence earns validation as mobile surveillance solution
By CCJ Staff

Visual Defence Inc., a security convergence company, announced Tuesday, Jan. 8, that its centralized mobile video surveillance solution encompassing its Mobile Digital Video Storage Solution (DVSSm) and Virtual Matrix System (VMS) server and software is Motomesh-ready. Visual Defence says this validation affirms that its mobile surveillance solution satisfactorily enables viewing, transmitting and managing of live and recorded video and data across the Motorola Motomesh wireless broadband network.

Visual Defence says its centralized mobile video surveillance system was tested successfully at multiple Motomesh radio frequencies, definitively establishing its ability to provide first responders with real-time live and recorded video to enable faster, better-informed emergency response, as well as heightened public safety and security within mobile environments like buses and trains.

Each vehicle is installed with IP cameras and a Visual Defence DVSSm unit. The DVSSm communicates with the Motorola Motomesh radio and transmits video via the router and network switch to the Visual Defence VMS server located within a central monitoring center. Live and recorded video is viewed using the VMS SoftClient within the central monitoring center, as well as on laptops in the field that are connected wirelessly, giving users real-time mobile access to video information, the company says. Highly flexible and scalable, the centralized mobile video surveillance solution can accommodate the addition of vehicles to the fleet, as well as additional mobile and fixed cameras to monitor public spaces, as requirements expand, according to Visual Defence.

"Visual Defence is extremely pleased to be officially recognized as Motomesh-ready," says Dagan Sadeh, chief executive officer of Richmond Hill, Ontario-based Visual Defence. "The goals of Visual Defence and Motorola are strategically aligned within the public safety and security space. This means that for those organizations and municipalities who have already installed a mesh network, they can quickly deploy a proven and tested mobile surveillance security solution. For those who are currently exploring the idea of expanding their fixed network to extend their security program to open and mobile public places, the Motomesh network is an extremely cost-effective solution.""

Nice summary of VDI on T.M.F:

I note that I can buy 100k at the mid-price (14.125p) online, so there is still an overhang, but that's only about £14k's worth I suppose so could clear quickly with a bit of interest. Hopefully that's all that's left.

As I've said elsewhere, perhaps the herd will finally discover VDI now..... £10m m/cap, £7.5m cash, profitable in H2 and guaranteed revenue streams going forward says it all.

This is another AIM stock which is basically trading at the wrong level. 28mn t/o for the full year means 2nd half t/o was 18mn so maybe 36mn+ pencilled in for the current year even allowing for the lumpiness (if that's a word) of the contracts. Enterprise value at 2.5mn stg!! Just be patient.

Not pegged. Just trading around parity at the moment. Don't just focus on the cash balance. They have other tangible assets as well. When totted up the shares are trading at below tangible NAV.

£10M m/cap with £7.5M in cash. Is that right.

£1 = 1.97CAD which is the exact same as the US dollar exchange rate. Is this a mistake or are they pegged

An excellent trading statement. Second half revenue growth was very strong and the company traded profitably at the operating level. With the airport deal due to kick in later this year we should be reporting a healthy profit for the current year. Also worth bearing in mind that the company has a tangible NAV of about 16p.

A few more high profile contract wins along the lines of the Ivory Coast deal and we will get the due recognition we deserve. If they can get US accreditation for direct flights to the Ivory Coast they will be in strong demand around the region. Many countries don't have security arrangements that satisfy US regulators to allow them direct flights. If VDI manage it with the Ivory Coast then other countries will likely go knocking on their door asking them to do a similar job for them.

For the record (a rather good record - I wonder if Par12 has any more pearls of wisdom we can ignore!):

"Trading Update - Year to 31 December 2007

RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO - 8 January 2008 - Visual Defence, the security
convergence company, today announces an update on trading for the year to 31
December 2007.

The year to 31 December 2007 has been a positive year for Visual Defence. As
previously announced we have won a number of important new contracts and
contract extensions in both the civil and military applications of our systems.
Of particular note was the signing of a new 25 year contract with the government of an African country for a build-operate-transfer passenger safety and security screening project at the country's principal airport.

The positive momentum of delivering new contracts has continued into 2008 and
Visual Defence is pleased to announce the approval from the City of Stockholm's
public transportation authority, Stockholm LokalTrafik (SL), to deliver an
additional 250 IP intercom help phone units. This $1.3 million CAD order
extension brings the total number of IP intercom help phones to be delivered to
500.

The Company has continued to grow its revenues and the Directors expect to
report revenues for the year to 31 December 2007 of approximately $28 million
CAD. Additionally the Directors are pleased with the progress the Company has
made toward profitability. However, even though the Directors expect to report
an operating profit for the second half of 2007, the Directors expect to report
an operating loss for the full year to 31 December 2007. The cash position of
the Company remains strong at approximately $15 million CAD."

One Canadian dollar is slightly more than 1 USD or about 50p.

Of course in such a politically unstable tinderbox of a country like Canada this means nothing of course. 80/
