Here it is

"No hang-ups with phone vending kiosk

THE UK's first vending machine to dispense mobile phones was due to be unveiled today.

Vodafone's Quickphone kiosk has been installed in the company's stores in Manchester, with stock including handsets and sim packs.

If successful, the pilot scheme could "become a common sight everywhere from festivals to train stations", the company says.

Tom Devine, head of retail at Vodafone UK, said: "Vodafone's Quickphone will revolutionise the industry by allowing self-service in almost any location."

Each machine will offer the customer a choice of three phones, and will be the first vending machine to use chip and pin technology, in addition to allowing customers to pay in cash.

It uses 3G technology to monitor stock levels, enabling the vending machine to be used in even the most remote locations.

Vodafone UK has 15.5million customers, and a company spokesman added: "The vending machine is designed for those who know what they want, from a simple Pay As You Talk phone from £30 to a sim pack costing £5.

"Whether you've lost your phone on top of a mountain, or you've arrived at a concert and left your phone behind, if there is a Quickphone kiosk, you can be sure of staying in touch."

Rumour of the day

Vianet Group, which provides technology for the remote monitoring of vending machines, held steady at 4p, despite word that its trial operation of Vodafone's QuickPhone kiosk at the mobile operator's stores in Manchester is faring well. Dealers note that Vodafone, which is using the kiosk to speed services in its shops, has 400 outlets in the UK.

I doubt it, options perhaps but not shares he already owns. Its possible he got them under special terms and had an agreement to sell on leaving but I've never heard of this before.

was he not obliged to sell them anyway as he gave up his post as director?

Haven't held VIA for some time, but still keep on radar.

Seems a bit sneaky he sold before telling the Market he was resigning. Obviously he knew he'd get a better price while the Market was kept in the dark.

I can handle a Director resigning, but share sales of that proportion I regard the clearest signal available. Will avoid now, but continue to watch with interest.

Vianet, which listed on London's Alternative Investment Market in March 2000, has developed a vending machine technology that allows a vendor to monitor the stock and cash returns of each of its machines anywhere in the world for the cost of a local phone call.

MD Thomson departs vending group Vianet

ALASTAIR REED

VIANET'S managing director, John Thomson, looks to have paid the price for the company's poor financial performance in recent months - the Fife-based manufacturer of vending machine technology announced yesterday he was to leave with immediate effect.

For the first six months of the year, Dunfermline-based Vianet's losses widened from £960,000 to £1.04 million despite turnover doubling to £370,000.

Analysts are forecasting full-year losses of £1.9m, compared with the £2.3m loss for the previous 15 months, but are tipping the company to almost break even in 2006, with a full-year loss of just £70,000.

It appears that Vianet's board members believe that not enough progress has been made since Thomson joined in December 2003. When contacted yesterday, finance director Alastair Kerr declined to add anything to the company's statement.

However, the departure looks to have been on the cards at least since the beginning of the month, when Thomson, 40, sold his 0.59 per cent stake in the company for about £47,000.

Vianet, which listed on London's Alternative Investment Market in March 2000, has developed a vending machine technology that allows a vendor to monitor the stock and cash returns of each of its machines anywhere in the world for the cost of a local phone call.

Shares in the group lost 9 per cent on the news, to close at 3.875p, giving Vianet a market cap of just £8.7m.

Director sells 360K shares and 'resigns' three weeks later? Didn't know he was going? Didn't know it would affect share price? Yet another e.g. of corporate dishonesty?
Only the last question deserves an answer of 'yes'.
I hold.

Some people have lost faith. It's inevitable that some people feel (/were) hurt by this Company. However, it's always been clear that this stock could never go up without some of these people selling out and clearing the overhang before we go to realistic price levels. If one believes that the recent customer wins mean anything, a back of the envelope calc tells me this shouldn't be a penny stock. MUYOM and DYOR; this stock has a History and whilst beyond the current management's fault, facts/history speaks louder than promises, wishes and forecasts. I'll buy some once volumes settle again as it may stay quiet for a while and than rocket on announcement (at which time I am always too late) or on an uptick tomorrow, maybe wait til Monday.
Good luck all.
