With the Ftse futures now down 114 points from the 16:30 close, and VSVS and ALNT having risen so much in the last month, there must be profit taking tomorrow.

They have already said that V & A will pay the same dividend pro rata as Cookson.

Is that when we find out if there will be a dividend ?

Strange that the de-merger from Cooksons has reduced the combined BBs posts of VSVS and ALNT by so much so quickly?

Is it because(so far) it's just been an increases in both SP's and BB like to post when disasters are happening

Alent up nearly 26p to close at 368p

I know this is Vesuvius thread but nobody on that thread with any ideas except results due 21st March (the same)

They have only been demurred a couple of months, can the results be that much higher for a 7.5% day rise.

I'm hoping that a strong rumour of a bid, is the reason, soon know.

If no legs it will down 26p

There was a lot of talk of Alent being the one to increase most

Alent on conversion 20/12/12 306p now 336p + 30p
Ves .. .. .. 353p now 376 + 23p

I suppose Alent has done better, but not that much.

Combined 712p Cookson last 18/12/12 was 643p

How much is due to S M increase?

(As to my other post today, IG has Ves at a 380.35p as high of day)

Hi Robert,

I always thought a company had to be trading for "x" amount of years and have "y" amount of turnover and liquidity.

I didn't think they could just turn up and say they want in or in this case split a company in two and keep both in the ftse ??

Yes, I'm no expert !!

flatout, isn't it just the value of the shares x the number in issue being in the top 350 companies by share value. Or do you mean they should wait a month or so for the share price to settle down?

I still don't understand how they both managed to get a FTSE350 listing straight away ??

Bought in and holding since Monday 7th Jan, seems to be one of my better decisions, hopefully; should be a positive year. Would 450p be a resonable target for 2013?

Alent and Versuvius added together now over 700p before de-merger Cksn 643p 8th Dec.

I worry this is too good to be true

Good recovery for Vesuvius on a bad ftse day. Now 352p down a fraction, from a low today of 343p

The dividend allocation split between the 2 companies is 63.3% VSVS and 36.7% ALNT which appears in-line with attributable profit. To preserve an historical perspective those percentages seem about right when apportioning a weighting to each of the companies...are there any other guide figures? However, I suspect that ALNT has better growth prospects so I am going to work on the basis of a 55/45 split in favour of VSVS.

CKSN's Bull run had moved the share price from 110p to 755p so my adjusted high for VSVS is 415.25p and 339.75p for ALNT. The more recent range was 507.50p to 650p giving adjusted ranges of 279p:357.50p for VSVS and 228.50p:292.50p for ALNT. It becomes clear which company offers the better value currently.

Assuming c357.50p is the adjusted interim high for VSVS, then a slippage of c(10.0%) to c321.75p (close to yesterday's low) was to be expected but a third wave of c14.00% to c366.75p is my idea of a short-term target with further progress beyond that during 2013.

haha nice one Robert.

I believe the 2 share prices will sperate quite a bit more also. VSVS on the upside IMO. I thought there would have been a greater difference between the 2 companies, but I'm sure it wont take long to develop.

Alot for Vesuvius depends on the demand for metal espacially steel. Keep an eye out for demand in China and far east. Also Corus/Tata are a driving factor for the Vesuvius located in UK
