modform - I note your interest in US companies as mentioned in post #7533 among others. If you have any ideas of a "safe" high yielder in the US that I should consider and research I would be grateful for any pointers. I have GSK in my sights for the UK but would love to consider anything else suggested that I may not be aware of from those more familiar with overseas companies. Perhaps you and your colleagues may know of one or two? Much appreciated if you are able to provide any leads. Thank you and all the best for 2017.

Hello APAD - Taking advantage of the option to make a change before the deadline. Please would you replace NANO (sorry Red, I just don't trust management & think it may just drag on there this year but hope I am wrong as I actually hold!) with one on my watch list as permitted? Any idea why the weakness in ABC Apad. Ive just sold some BIOG making a good profit on a tiny slice. Don't ask me why I sold. Like others have written recently, It's an art and not one I'm going to worry about as my PF is tiny for when kids take off.
Biotech has to be a big part of the future, given the way human evolution is going but I honestly can't tell one Co from another given the nature of the business! D'snt help that my economics is gash either:-)

I see oil between 50 and 60 dollars, the ftse peaking at 7500, the dollar remaining strong and the pound weak with interest rates flat. I think a steady year in prospect but there will be some more M&A activity as foreign companies look to capitalise on the strong dollar. There will be some politics with Trump v everyone else but it's all ebb and flow stuff. Bring it on!

I see that Linhur is counting his dinner before the table is booked. I hope that he has somewhere very good planned. Only the best for me, when being entertained!
I am feeling more confident seeing a change in his runners and riders.
Just a shame that I will not reap the rewards for a year.

I would concur with nearly all of your hypotheses, with political being the key both sides of the pond. My only difference is oil, where I suspect that we may bump along around $50 - $55 at best, with dips below $50. Y'oodles will swing into more production and some of the cartel will cheat, until the agreement breaks down. Demand will not grow significantly over the 12 months.

Yes, own all of these. Been in CVSG since sub £1 (although sold too many on the way up!). I have been in PAYS for 3/4 years. PVG & VANL are more recent and MCS is revisited, having been in them before they delisted.

Apart from ZMNO these are all asset picks at really big discounts to tangible assets. TREE and ALF are in liquidation mode. So as regards ValueGrowth in the thread title, value yes but not growth.

Rsw and Spx both moving in the same direction. South!

Rsw interims 26 Jan. '17. The fall is too early.
They have both had good runs North in the last several days.
Volumes are light and I do not see squaring of books.

Thanks. I have saved it for later, I skim read it.
My degree is in Economics, so I do find it interesting how analyses are presented. You can 'prove' a lot with stats.

The tension is mounting towards the close of the market today.
Who will have the initial advantage form the closing prices of the runners and riders?
Who will find themselves in the right sectors for the long haul to the finish line?
Time will tell.

The questions now are:
Which sectors are going to be the winners for the year?
What will happen to oil?
Inflation?
Currencies?
Interest rates?
Political turmoil?
Will Trump survive until 20217?
My crystal ball is extremely cloudy at present.

I am looking at an in and out year - in on the dips and out on the rises, and not being too greedy.

Out again today. I am beginning to flag from over-exposure to the social whirl. I may just hibernate for the whole of January.
