Vallar Plc ("Vallar" or the "Company")

The Company announced earlier today its proposed purchase of holdings in PT Bumi
Resources Tbk ("Bumi") and PT Berau Coal Energy Tbk ("Berau"). As the proposed
acquisition will be treated as a "reverse takeover" for the purposes of the
Listing Rules, at the request of the Company, trading of Vallar's ordinary
shares on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange has been suspended. The
Company and its advisers intend to work closely with the Financial Services
Authority to provide the required information for trading in the Ordinary Shares
to re-commence at the earliest possible date. The Company will provide updates
to the market as appropriate.

Will do. Very quiet so far. Guess the brokers are all trying to work out what it all amounts to!!!

Again I agree with that - nice timing (assume there will be a mark-up today)

I have no idea! Hopefully we'll see some broker coverage later. Coal is as good a commodity as there is at the moment, Indonesia is politically much better than Africa or Russia and they are certainly bringing scale to the table. I am excited!!

Stuart: very interesting acquisition - what do you make of that? In fact - how the hell do you value that..!!?

Agree with that

Thanks. I'm long. Figure the cash was doing nothing in the bank, and with them sitting on 965p per share in cash that is easily returnable to shareholders the downside is limited.

Agree with that - he's a rich boy though - losing a couple of million wouldn't do too much to the family coffers though (assuming he doesn't invest in something that goes completely bankrupt).

Good luck if you're long - just feel there's better investments out there for me

Well, he has £100m of his own money invested, so I reckon he wants it to succeed!

Has anyone bothered to read the half-year report? Seems strange to release it at 3.39pm

Stuart: slightly more complex than that. Depends what they are buying - where - at what price - how the debt is going to be structured - blah blah. You are just taking a view on the management with a stock like this. Nat seems to have the connections so should be able to get a deal done but if this venture doesnt work whats his downside?

A bit too shady for me to invest

The beast is waking up. If they do a deal, 25% funded with cash, 75% debt buying an asset for $3bn where will the share price go. I can only assume up!!

Price continues to drift with lack of news on a deal. Must be on a 7/8% discount to cash if you can buy within the wide spread.

Rather bizarre article here linking VAA to private Russian iron ore producer Metalloinvest:

Rasta - I agree with you but needs more due diligence.

What companies are trading at 50 discounts? I want to buy them

yep, quite a lot. The nav is currently 995p held in sterling. We are awaiting investment. The names behind this fund are big. Which companies are trading at 50% discount to cash and why?

This is only circa 10% discount to cash.
There are companies trading at 50% discount to cash, or NTAV.
No investment for the foreseeable future.
Huge opportunity cost to invest here.
Am I missing something?

roman, you may be right about asset prices getting away from Vallar's target valuations.
