Sweenoid - I think the Amazon link goes as far as being able to use FS Minuet on the Amazon ecosystem such as being able to control the speakers from a Kindle. I don't think it has anything to do with providing modules for Echo like devices, unless someone has more concrete proof.

At £99 it's a steal...surely.

Looks totally awesome, just as a stand alone speaker its great and the rest, well its amazing.TMZ patently ( excuse the pun) must have a connection here given the recent PR material giving the Amazon name,if not they are misleading us.

Things starting to actually look very positive herd, and frankly I never thought I would say that again

We shall see,the results outlook statement should be very interesting

Sorry Rob.....claiming your thunder.

Google had hoped to launch a year ago but it missed a deadline for Xmas 2015. This Xmas is phase 1 and if successful will see things scaled up hugely next year.

Maybe the Sensium give-away (like my Murphy's - I'm not bitter) was part of a grander plan after all.

Marvell, nor indeed any suitor, are likely to want a clearly defined and focused business that fits with their strategy.

Indeed, as I pointed out in post 3577, Marvell must be favourites to takeover TMZ at some point.

I find it hard to believe that Marveĺl aren't keeping an eye on TMZ from a corporate prospective. As one analyst has said are they "the hunter or the hunted?". There is consolidation going on in the sector and they are in the middle ground yet have $2bn in cash.

Probably at least 6 months too early for them to pounce as they will want to see how Minuet goes.

At least any extra sales now = additional profits and not good money after bad.
Digital figures look solid while early days for connected audio but the potential market is huge.

By Doug Irwin, CPBE AMD DRB

LONDON —WorldDAB has released its latest figures on sales and DAB coverage for key markets in Europe and Asia Pacific for the end of Q2 2016. Available to download as an infographic here, the statistics include road and overall population coverage, receiver sales, household penetration and, for the first time, the number of national stations on DAB/DAB+ as compared to FM.

Key findings include:

Almost 50 million consumer and automotive receivers (48,232,000) have been sold across the featured markets
In the majority of markets, up to 5X as many national stations are available on DAB/DAB+ as on FM / AM
Coverage in Norway and Switzerland is at 99.5%, with Denmark, The UK, The Netherlands and Germany close behind
Over half of radio listening in Switzerland is now digital (53%)
Household receiver penetration in Norway is now at 67% with the UK close behind with 56%
Germany, Netherlands, Italy, France and Belgium all show signs of positive growth in the last year

“Digital radio continues to go from strength to strength with all markets making significant progress in the last six months,” said Patrick Hannon, President of WorldDAB. “The leading markets in Europe and Asia Pacific have almost 50 million DAB receivers on the market, offering an impressive selection of national stations compared to FM/analog broadcasts.

Frontier Silicon and Marvell showcase new Wi-Fi network optimization technology
Dallas, 13th September 2016

Frontier Silicon, a leading software provider for consumer audio devices, and Marvell, a global leader in providing complete silicon solutions, are extending their collaboration to develop a new generation of smart audio technologies.

Frontier is including Marvell’s Dynamic Multi-Hop Relay (DMHR) technology in its new Google Cast™-enabled smart audio module, Minuet. DMHR is a new technology which allows Wi-Fi® multi-room speakers to form a chain where each device can receive streaming audio from the previous link in the chain - rather than individual speakers only receiving content from a single router or access point (AP). With its Minuet solution, Frontier is the first smart audio company to introduce DMHR in a commercially available solution.

For owners of smart speakers, DMHR offers three key benefits:

the range of a multi-room network can be extended
the number of speakers in a network is no longer constrained by the capacity of the router (particularly useful for high quality audio)
the reduction in network congestion frees up Wi-Fi bandwidth for other domestic uses such as video streaming

DMHR is available on Marvell’s 88W8887 Avastar® Wi-Fi chipset, which is used in Frontier’s Minuet module. The module is part of Frontier’s speaker toolkit, a design platform which enables audio manufacturers to develop wireless speakers incorporating Google Cast, quickly and cost-effectively.

Frontier Silicon will be demonstrating Minuet and DMHR at CEDIA 2016, Booth #1924 – between 15th and 17th September.

Prem Rajalingham, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Frontier Silicon, said:

“Minuet is a market leading solution for Google Cast speakers. Our relationship with Marvell enables us to offer customers a full range of innovative solutions. The introduction of DMHR is a great example of how this partnership can deliver for our customers and their end users.”

Kevin Tang, Associate Vice President of Marketing, Wireless Connectivity Business Unit at Marvell Semiconductor, Inc, said:

“DMHR is an important new element of our Wi-Fi solutions for the smart home. As we continue to drive innovation, collaborating with Frontier provides direct access to the smart audio market, where we believe our technology will bring significant consumer benefits.”

Frontier Silicon: Smart Audio technologies on show at CEDIA 2016

September 14, 2016 08:51 AM Eastern Daylight Time

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Frontier Silicon, the leading provider of smart audio technologies, is demonstrating its portfolio of solutions at CEDIA 2016. The company’s two lead offerings are:

Minuet: a Google Cast-enabled speaker toolkit for Wi-Fi speakers, soundbars and Hi-Fi systems

Venice 6.5: a cost-optimized solution for multi-room speakers including Spotify Connect, Napster and Deezer

Minuet

The new Minuet speaker toolkit is a design platform which enables audio manufacturers to develop wireless speakers incorporating Google Cast, quickly and cost-effectively. Frontier is one of a very small number of solution providers working with Google on this technology.

The toolkit is powered by Frontier’s Minuet module and includes the entire design set needed to build an audio product (datasheets, schematics, gerbers, mechanical drawings, bill of materials, application guidelines, simulation tools, iOS / Android reference apps and libraries). It comes pre-certified for CE, FCC, Wi-Fi Alliance and Bluetooth.

The Minuet connected module measures only 56x37mm - incorporating the key features required for a state-of-the-art audio device, including 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, diversity antennas, a dual-core ARM A7 processor, multiple audio inputs and outputs.

The first products incorporating Minuet will be on shelves in Q4 this year.

Venice 6.5

Venice 6.5 is a cost-optimized module for audio brands who are building smart audio products and hybrid / Internet radios.

Together with its UNDOK™ multi-room app solution, Venice 6.5 offers a complete suite of smart audio features, including: integration with premium music services such as Spotify Connect, Napster (previously known as Rhapsody), Tidal, Deezer, and Qobus; Apple Airplay; advanced audio sync technologies for multi-room, DLNA, support for Aux In and Bluetooth inputs and a variety of user interface options.

Venice 6.5 modules have been built into more than 100 audio products and have sold over two million units – demonstrating that the technology satisfies the demands of consumers. At the same time, the UNDOK multi-room app has been deployed in over 50 smart audio devices – creating a growing ecosystem of inter-operable devices.
Services and support

Frontier Silicon also offers applications and support teams in Hong Kong and China. Unique in the industry, these teams bring expertise across the supply chain - for faster software, hardware and wireless integration cycles. Audio manufacturers in Europe and the US also benefit from direct support from Frontier’s local teams in those territories.

Additional design services such as customised user interfaces, mobile app development, hardware design services, software upgrade and maintenance add up to the best support infrastructure in the connected audio industry.

Frontier will be demonstrating its Minuet and Venice 6.5 solutions at CEDIA 2016, Booth #1204, in Dallas from 15th to 17th September.
