They are rabbiting on about EV's How are governments going to tax them as to the heavy taxation on petrol and diesel? Ev.s are being held back until it suits them! Thus,have invested another amount in TRK.

OA, I think they spend quite a lot keeping their intellectual property up to date. One would have hoped by now that they would have had more to say about the turbo drive, given that it works and exceeds original expectations. I suppose it's just another mousetrap in search of an OEM committed to using it. The price action suggests that people are throwing in the towel, I suggest that TRK approach the Guinness Book of Records for being the longest company in operation without actually selling anything at all!

OliversAnvil, TRK is notably incapable of getting awareness of their tech into the public space, unlike the various purveyors of things electrical or semi-electrical. Years ago they could have fixed up a Black Cab with an IVT and got some easy low cost publicity, but presumably they didn't want to upset their masters in Dearborn Mich?

I suppose 2020 will bring about changes as the USA has to meet a fleet wide average of 54mpg? or something like that. Since the engineering world grinds very slowly presumably the major OEM's have already decided how they are going to do this, if their plans include TRK tech then there is still hope for this dog, but if not then TRK will struggle for a reason to exist.

No it's not supposed to be a solution to the fines, it's a comparison that a possible solution could be almost trivial compared to the fines. The VW thinking seems to have been similar to that of BP before the Gulf disaster. ie take huge risks to save comparatively small amounts of money, instead of doing the job properly.

I suppose none of them had placed an engine and transmission across the front of a car before Issigonis did it, so adding another belt and pulley shouldn't be too hard to digest if it does the trick. Of course it's the 'trick' at the right price that wins.

Whatever 'solution' you're proposing it's not a solution to the fines - they're going to happen whatever VW does going forward.

If you're thinking V-Charge, I note that VW has now dropped their turbo+supercharger engine, although it once won Engine of the Year - too complex/expensive for the benefits.

In that vein I've been struggling to identify any technology introduced by a volume car manufacturer in the last ten years that's driven off the crankshaft. Lots of examples that have gone the other way - from the crankshaft to the battery - but none that have done what V-Charge is trying to do - add another belt and pulley. Any suggestions anyone?

The VW scandal must have people looking for quick solutions unless VW are willing to give up their diesel cars altogether, which would be unlikely given the amount of sunk capital in their development. Now I wonder where they could find that quick solution for a mere fraction of the fines they are going to have to pay? A mere £500 million would do it :¬), soon earned back by licensing it to other car co's.

Also further confirmation in that announcement of the death of the TRK IVT

"The 42 month project is expected to commence in December 2016 and will focus on developing and commercialising a leading edge hydrostatic continuously variable transmission with a flywheel-based energy storage system for off-highway machines and construction equipment. Torotrak expects to receive funding of at least GBP1.2 million to develop its Flybrid technology for these applications

Lets hope so Thanksamillion, although I daresay JCB will have nailed it down that TRK won't be able to sell that version to anyone else? This is ever a hobby in search of a reliable income.

Perhaps that neat turbo drive could be used to drive a whole load of other things?
