No problems. I appreciate the record being put straight.

Blackcard, LOL. I don't remember you from any previous thread though so i'm not sure about 'the last time' and i'm hardly going to post anything about having 'inside results' info, but nice try anyway. I think the £600,000 figure for full year was a bit old, but still a very healthy set of figures.

I still think its worth holding these as i'm hopeful that someone will take an interest in the company, but that's all just speculation.

Still 2v2 so hopefully not many more sellers out there.

Well considering last interims gave a profit of about £500,000 for 6 months, I was expecting around £1million profit for the full year! Get my drift?

It was me predicting profits of 3x ie £1.5 million and I wasn't far off at £1.2 million so don't start ruining my morning being nasty ;-))

Goliard, you were spot on with that one (same as last time if I remember), but no news on a bid is disappointing. Did you know in advance what the numbers were? Market was expecting 600,000 so 2x was correct,a friend of mine who works in the industry said TTH were doing fantastically well, so that's where I got my prediction from. You shouldn't take Aerotus' comments so personally though.

Any other bits of 'inside results' info? ;-))

Goliard - I have briefly looked back and what you say is right, you expected a profit of between 1 mil to 1.5mil. What I was referring to about your ramping was that you expected profits to be X2 market expectations. Was this really the case?

Also, someone else was going on about how profits would be X3 expectations. I probably got him confused with you. Sorry about that.

And you didn't have the guts to post an apology either. Very disappointed with that, but I guess you're still fairly new to this and haven't learnt to apologise when you're wrong. I hope your investing goes well and that your manners improve.

Well, I sold out at +11.8%. Didn't really want to but had to get some funds into BPRG (becasue of the amazing RNS) and comdirect wouldn't let me sell more than a pittance of my DTC holding. Oh well, at least I sold at the peak. However, I'm sure I will regret this in the med/long term as TTH is a very strong company with much more to go. Already we are seeing the buyers slowly trickling in now. Should see a steady rise in the next few days.

Good luck TTH holders.

And there's all the delayed sells coming through. Obviously the results were well and truly leaked, but i'm not at all surprised. 2v2 currently on L2 so we seem to have found a bottom for now, last mm change was at 8.29am.

I agree Josh, the trend seems to be sell as soon as you see blue no matter how small the rise is or how good the results.
Same thing happened with Cookson and IDN.

Lots of sellers early on. I think we'll see some delayed trades in about an hours time. I think there was genuine hope of an announcement on a takeover or reverse takeover. Hopefully this will stabilise and go back up after those people bail out.

Aerotus, still waiting, check ALL my posts even from the previous thread.

goliard - 23 May'04 - 18:04 - 18 of 136 edit

Short term I hope, ie within two months. Results are the key. If i'm wrong about those and the pretax is less than 1 million then i'll apologise and bail out, but lets say i'm quietly confident about a figure in excess of 1 million pretax. I find the rumours of 1.5 million pretax to be high, but not stupidly so. The company gave out a trading statement that was good, but doesnt seem to suggest that my figures are possible and that's the only thing making me cautious. If i'm right about the results (and we'll know in a couple of weeks) then dont sell too soon.

I've been a steady buyer, so my money is most definately where my mouth is.

Aerotus - 23 May'04 - 18:11 - 19 of 136

Where do these rumours come from? If I remember correctly, the trading statement said "Trading slightly ahead of market expectations". The word slightly is either being used VERY prudently or twice expected profit is asking for too much??

goliard - 23 May'04 - 18:24 - 20 of 136 edit

Thats exactly what i mean. 'Slightly' implies small but decent growth, maybe £600k instead of £500k, so thats why I know my expectations seem fairly ludicrous. As i said, wait for the reults and i'll either post my apology or be feeling pretty happy.

Cant really tell you much more Aerotus and i know this doesn't clarify things much. I think, 'wait and see' is the best i can say.

TOP TEN HOLDINGS PLC

CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT
FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 28 MARCH 2004

Highlights

• Pre-tax profit up 119.4% to £1.2 million
• Turnover up 43.3% to £11.3 million
• Maiden dividend of 0.05p per share
• Outlook positive given successful acquisition and integration strategy
and planned legislative changes

On behalf of your Board I am pleased to present the accounts for the 52 week
period ended 28th March 2004 which show very satisfactory progress.

Results
The group achieved a pre-tax profit of £1,270,514 (2003 £579,156) an increase of
119.4 per cent. on turnover of £11,347,502 (2003 £7,917,044) which is up 43.3
per cent.

These results reflect the effect of a full year's trading from the five Welcome
clubs acquired in December 2002 and some five months contribution from the seven
Mason's clubs acquired in October 2003.

As a consequence of the change in Bingo Duty regime in October 2003 from a tax
on amounts staked to a Gross Profit Tax, certain expenses have been reclassified
from distribution expenses to cost of sales and to turnover, with no subsequent
effect on profit. The comparative balances have been restated accordingly, with
the effect being to reclassify expenditure of £1,110,623 to cost of sales and
£312,716 to turnover in 2003. This restatement has been made to enable
comparability with the results of future accounting periods.

Trading performance
Improved trading across the group has produced significant growth. Each of the
clubs has exceeded last years trading results, with three exceptions. One of
these clubs, which as previously reported, had been adversely affected by new
competition. This has been addressed and the club is now showing signs of
recovery.

Mason clubs
The trading results from these clubs since acquisition have been very
satisfactory with operating performance showing continual improvement.
Operational improvements have led to growth in the spend per head over the
period and we expect to see this trend continue.

The programme of refurbishment will be completed by the end of 2005. It is
expected that this programme will have a beneficial effect on takings.

Work has commenced on the club in Billingham, which was closed at the time of
acquisition. Having successfully negotiated an extension of the lease from 8
years to 25 for minimal cost, and following a detailed assessment of the
property and its trading potential, the board decided to undertake a higher
level of refurbishment than originally planned. This included some £100,000 for
the installation of an escalator. In the absence of any unforeseen building
problems it is expected to open this club in September 2004.

Dividends
I am pleased to announce that the Board recommends a maiden dividend of 0.05p
per share for the financial period ended 28th March 2004. This, subject to
shareholders' approval, will be paid as a final dividend on 10th August 2004 to
members on the register at 9th July 2004. The Board intends to pursue a
progressive dividend policy with future dividend growth linked broadly to growth
in underlying earnings.

Board and management
The Board believes that the Company has the opportunity to achieve significant
growth over the years ahead. In order to capitalise on these opportunities fully
the Board has undertaken a review of the senior management structure of the
Company. With immediate effect Alan Weston and Bruce Roberts have been appointed
Joint Managing Directors of the Company. Alan will have specific responsibility
for Finance and strategic development while Bruce remains responsible for
Operations.

To support the Executive Board David Cutts has joined the Company as Group
Financial Controller, initially on a part time basis.

Outlook
Since the year-end we exchanged contracts to sell our smallest club in Tiverton,
Devon with expected completion in August.

The proposed changes to the gaming legislation should, in the opinion of the
board, have a beneficial effect on the performance of the Company. If the bill
gets Royal Assent in 2005 then the changes should come into force in 2006 or
2007.

With the success of the acquisition and integration of the Welcome and Masons
clubs your Board continues to seek further acquisition opportunities.

The Board looks forward with confidence to another successful year.

Sir Aubrey Brocklebank
Chairman

I think Gala are looking for bigger players than TTH to do business with, but the sector is moving fast and is responding to the possibility of deregulation. There is bound to be further consolidation and cash generating companies will do well.

Willydoctor, I looked at a spreadbet but decided against it as you had to pay the full spread, whereas, buying the shares is possible well inside the spread. Also the bet size I wanted was too big and IG wanted to increase the stop loss to allow it!!

Would be great to see a big schwing on Monday - but I doubt it. There is little room for upward surprise given what they have already said. Seems like a good stock tho - I'm only in at £250/point, but long term looks good espec if either (a) they grow with earnings-generating acquisitions and / or (b) the hunter turns hunted. Either is good! Money works well for me.
Hope for a good day tomorrow!

Sunday Times carries an interesting article about the boss of Gala. Worth a read as it highlights the cash generation of bingo clubs and the fact that Gala are also still on the acquisition trail.

I've always said 100% gain and to get that we need to see 14p. Nobody is getting my shares for less than that. If a takeover is on the cards then it should be more like 18p.
