06/5/2005 06:42 | Separately, AV Edge was acquired last year for 600,000, a company that specialises in the production and delivery of educational content for digital and broadcast platforms. This paid for mainly by issuing shares at 35 cent each has given the group another leg. Thus, Third Force is now extending its business by developing a life-skills division, which is marketed through AV Edge and is targeted at selling courseware in adult literacy and numeracy training. There is considerable demand for such courses in the developing world also, where there is huge potential as computers become increasingly cheap. | hypocrite
06/5/2005 06:40 | Sales are beginning to grow to such an extent that O'Sullivan has decided to make online assessment a separate product division inside Third Force, with a separate management team to drive this part of the business forward. | hypocrite
06/5/2005 06:34 | Sales here as yet are only just topping 1m, but O'Sullivan can develop these markets and, more importantly, build on the deal he has done with the Chinese government and start rolling out Third Force's products in mainland China. Although the ECDL courseware was the baseproduct for driving Third Force's business, its development of online-assessment courseware to test individual computer literacy skills is now being adopted almost across the board by British schools. | hypocrite
06/5/2005 06:33 | Separately, the British government is financing the development of adult computerliteracy through its Learn Direct network of over 2,000 centres across Britain, and Third Force was the chosen company to roll out its online assessment product, Autotest. The adoption of Third Force's Autotest courseware products by the British army and RAF also helped fuel the group's business in Britain. Last year, sales there topped 9m. Third Force is now the most successful supplier of e-learning courseware and testing software for the ECDL programme worldwide. ECDL is now the world's biggest end user computer-skill certification programme, with 15 million individual tests so far completed a near 50% growth in one year. O'Sullivan intends to use his Apple European experience to push Third Force out internationally. He has already translated the group's Autotest product into Arabic, Spanish and Chinese. Autotest is starting to be used in Egypt, Kuwait, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. | hypocrite
06/5/2005 06:30 | This growth was fuelled by adding new courseware products and channels of distribution for the group's individual e-learning business. While Pat McDonagh is the chairman and inspiration behind Third Force, the company is run by the ceo, Brendan O'Sullivan, formerly of Apple's European education business, which was based in Paris. O'Sullivan, too, is mainly incentivised by eight million share options. Pat McDonagh holds 41 million shares. Last year, O'Sullivan developed a partnership with the educational arm of the giant Reed Elsevier publishing house. The key strategic relationship with Harcourt Education International has produced new e-learning material based on their popular and widely-used book content. This collaboration has resulted in curriculum software products for the British schools market, and this began to grow seriously in Britain last year. | hypocrite
06/5/2005 06:27 | Last year was effectively Third Force's first clear run as a pure elearning courseware and testing-provider company, selling its courseware from established offices in Dublin and London. It also began to break ground internationally with new offices in Canada and Australia. On a normalised like-for-like basis, Third Force managed to increase sales last year by an annualised 55% to 12m for the year to December 2004. Much more importantly, normalised operating profit for the whole of 2003 came to 349,000 but almost doubled in the first half of last year to 623,000. It almost doubled again in the second half of last year to 1.1m. | hypocrite
