The Securities and Exchange Commission said it reached a settlement with 22 firms accused of short-selling violations, resulting in more than $14.4 million in sanctions.
The cases are part of a broader effort to prevent firms from improperly participating in public offerings of stocks that they have sold short.
The settlements resolve enforcement actions against 22 of the 23 firms that were charged, according to the SEC. The firms were accused of buying shares in a public offering after having sold the same security short during the restricted period in violation of SEC regulations.
The SEC rule aims to prevent short selling that can artificially reduce the stock price shortly before a public offering is priced--leading to illegal profits for the firms doing the short selling. The rule applies regardless of whether or not there is the intent to manipulate the share price.
The firms in the settlements include D.E. Shaw & Co., Deerfield Management Company and Blackthorn Investment Group, SEC said.
"The benchmark of an effective enforcement program is zero tolerance for any securities law violations, including violations that do not require manipulative intent," said Andrew J. Ceresney, co-director of the SEC's enforcement division. "We are sending the clear message that firms must pay the price for violations."|
|janestone: I agree kiwimonk. This should multi-bag if they ever release news (its been six months since the last news on Brazil). I believe that the reason for the low share price was a distressed seller.|
|cammy3: Indeed, VGM share price about to take off. TMP has a nice position in VGM so here's hoping for some news on TMP's own projects. The fact these guys wanted clearance at the AGM to issue shares etc tells me something must be cooking.|

|sagem: Well all that news did not do the share price any good.....I WONDER WHY.|
|droftarts: Something must be brewing. Rises over the last few weeks then a huge sell off? Sounds like a bid in the offing. AIMHO. Especially as it hasn't moved the share price down.|
|unconscious: Canadian Zinc Corporation taking an 18.25% stake in VGM could be very good news as TMP still have a substantial holding in VGM: - 85 million shares, 4.47%.
If CZC (or someone else) decide to make a decent offer and TMP sell their shares then it would give the company a huge cash flow boost and I imagine the share price would react very favorably indeed. IMO|
|seanmiller: i agree seagreen, and it is easy to forget that TMP are not only about RVD but future aquisitions and investments. If they do indeed get the RVD call right then it shows they know their stuff.......
If that is the case then when RVD relists, and if the share price goes up, then the MM's may have to price in that factor also, which could really push TMP up higher. Its like a snowball effect, the downside is that RVD do not increase share price on day then TMP dir's may not be all they make out to be.
My money is on the former though, and with gold prices as they are at the monent I can only see RVD share price going over the 6p placing, all IMO and dyor etc.
I wont be selling these, and if they hit my target will only sell half and leave the rest for a much longer term play.............which means I can carry on posting for years and years.....................lol!!!!|
|seanmiller: Im holding 90k shares in TMP, and sitting tight.
lvl 2 has been stagnant for ages at 1v3 3p-3.5p
MM's not keen to create any interest in this stock at moment, perhaps they want to see what happens to RVD. I think we will see some buying over the coming weeks and TMP share price will go to a more realistic price, 7p +
If RVD increases on listing day, as one would expect with gold as it is at moment, then TMP could go much further IMO
I might top up early next week.....|
|silveraw: TMP held 24.8% (270m)of RVD shares in October possibly more now and the TMP share price will rise to reflect the increase in the share price from the 4.5p when de-listed to the 6p plus when trading starts again. The RVD re-listing is expected to be 4th week Jan/1st week Feb. so I guess buying into TMP is a matter of timing. I cant see them going any lower so wait to long and you could be buying at a premium. I also have RVD shares and am trying to time my entry into TMP.....has to be soon.|
