12/9/2012 15:54 | One thing that has been overlooked is these June 2102 results should contain a hidden bonus. SWL has a 52 week accounting year - so what you might say?? In a 'normal' year SWL has 364 days of income + cost of sales and 365 or 366 days of overheads. No big deal, but eventually this has to be a catch-up of a 53 week year when there are 371 days of income etc and 365 days of overheads. The last 53 week year was 2006. Go back over the 5-year summary accounts for the last two/three years. One week's additional GP!! Pip pip! | threewheels
11/9/2012 19:08 | ..ah ...interesting... ...everyone plays their cards in their own way of course... ...I can see the logic behind holding cash I guess.... ...with the risk that Spain could fall over any day.....and Italy, Greece are wobbling...so could easily have a bad scenario for stock markets at any time... ---- cut | markt
09/9/2012 17:46 | Just moving into cash for a bit so sold pretty much all holdings bar a couple. TBH , I'd have kept swl for a while longer for the same reasons as you , but for now i'm mostly cash for a bit. Cheers DbD | death by donut
09/9/2012 17:03 | hmmmmm ..each to their own.... but for me....personally if any microcap moves up after I buy it.....it hopefully means that my buying reasons were correct...in which case personally I would often buy more !...or at least hold... (whereas if it moves down....it may mean that the reasons for buying were not strong enough....in opinion of the mkt versus other reasons....and hence worth considering to sell....(or buy more ! if it goes down much ) personally my microcap shares are going up and down like yo-yos ......no way I can consider any decisions on tiny moves like 6.5%.... (I wonder if you then lost 13% on the share you bought after SWL ! using that money...) ---- ...although, maybe you had to pay for some doughnuts ! | markt
07/9/2012 13:08 | Thats 6.5% after all costs. Every little helps . DbD :0) | death by donut
07/9/2012 13:02 | Uh !! 6.5%.....imo...your game plan is wrong if playing 6.5% with microcaps....but each to their own...(especially if consider dealing costs and buy/sell spread with SWL..) | markt
05/9/2012 15:29 | Well , TY Mr Hill , 6.5% in couple of weeks , I'll take that , sold mine, was only a punt anyways. DbD | death by donut
04/9/2012 11:31 | Tipped in Money Week, 31/08/12, by Paul Hill, as a speculative buy @ 101. Pip pip | threewheels

29/8/2012 07:45 | Nice posting label... Death by Donut !! but should Donut not be in plural..Death by Donuts..or is there a double meaning ?! It's my online gaming name , came about many years ago when I pld my first ever LAN game I think they call it. Bro' in laws house with him and my nephew Nephew told me I needed a name to play . As I was thinking , sister in law brought me up the biggest Jam doughnut I'd ever seen so I modified the phrase 'Death by Chocolate' to Death by Donut Used it ever since. Cheers DbD :0) | death by donut
28/8/2012 21:14 | ...imo they supply some of the big names in the high street...and some of the big names that supply to the high street.... its perhaps/probably not so hush hush...those in the depths of the industry probably know.... ---- third time it has hit this horizontal support level.... probability would say it is a good time to buy....time will tell hopefully it wont go down through the support level.... (from memory the data at the last results seemed quite promising) --- Nice posting label... Death by Donut !! but should Donut not be in plural..Death by Donuts..or is there a double meaning ?! | markt
17/8/2012 21:01 | Ta Countryman5 , nice info , I only really looked at the basic numbers and there didn't seem to be any horror stories around on the web so took the plunge as it was on one of my filters. Be nice to know who they supply but all I can find is that it's all hush hush because of confidentiality clauses in contracts , still thats the name of the game i suppose. Only sorry I couldn't buy it for my mums ISA :( Cheers DbD | death by donut
17/8/2012 18:42 | DbD. This is a June 30 year end, figures out in mid September. Broker predicting PBT 1.6 (2011 1.3) with div at 6.3 p ( 6 per cent yield , after tax if buying at £1) Chairman thought 120 p was a good price, just before year end and at that date he would know the year outcome. Time will tell, but buying today could be a smart bargain. Western Selection paid nearly 140 p a couple of years ago and the company has moved forward since then. Singer, company broker, issued a research note May 2012 suggesting intrinsic value at 150 p per share with a target price of 220p if EBIT margins successfully trend up to 5%. | countryman5
17/8/2012 15:26 | Well , bought a few for my sipp , see how we get on , yield seems decent enough. DbD | death by donut
15/8/2012 18:42 | Yes, it has slipped a bit. Interesting to see if WSE start adding more down at this price. | topvest
15/8/2012 16:04 | Any interest here? DbD | death by donut
16/6/2012 16:23 | ...S Boyd has bought a few more shares.... now with around 100k shares....a solid investment/committme and hopefully a +ve sign, if SWL was a bad investment he wouldn't be spending/risking so much | markt
15/5/2012 11:52 | Coty withdraws $10.7bn bid for Avon maybe they could use the money to 'try' to buy SWL instead ?! ;-) | markt
27/4/2012 16:35 | "I don't actually know which supermarkets SWL manufacture products for (any idea if this info is available somewhere?)" I think they also supply some things to Cussons...but I could be wrong I would expect that they supply to a number of the big names....Boots perhaps..(Boots produce a lot of their own drugs I think but I don't think they make much in way of cosmetics, just a guess (historically they were chemist and produced for themselves I think) ..I don't know if SWL supply to Rimmel for example... Avon would be another possible customer...I assume that Avon buy all their stuff from external producers.... (they introduced a sunscreen product....which I would assume could be sold via shops like Boots...or perhaps distributed in Cornwall, close to factory just to start of....But I don't know if is own label or shop's label....) sunscreen always struck me as high margin....8 quid a bottle....and high % is ...water ! from the Czech republic factory I would assume that the best possible customer would be...Schlecker, since high volume and all of Europe... ---- My guess on the board changes is that the major shareholders wanted quicker development....perha (and perhaps some concerns about the books.....stock levels & risk being quite high relative to the profits being made....) and I guess a natural desire of 2 shareholders owning around 45% or so to have someone on the board...and to have a say in the direction that the company goes.... I think the new directors will be beneficial...such as the ex-L'Oriel chap ....many board changes ...imo would not have happened if PG/WSE had not called for votes to make board changes. ---- Still waiting to see what direction the company actually goes in... strange mix perhaps...UK production, Czech production...and a section in China. | markt
27/4/2012 11:04 | Haha, yeah we are few and far between - not exactly surprising if you look at the market cap and how much of the company is owned by the largest shareholders (can't be many of us pi's invested in SWL). That rumour is a bit old now so it may not be that relevant any more (no idea where the IC got that info from either). My take on it (as you probably gathered)is that the leadership of this company were doing quite well steadily increaing EPS like you say. Not a bad performance at all given the current market. While a new impetus can definitely be a good thing, change for change's sake when a compay is quite stable and actually doing fairly well can be a little distracting, particuarly when the particular change is so clearly not what the CEO wants. All imho of course. It is an intersting company as you say - what kind of things in this industry attract a higher margin? Diversification is always good but I feel that having fingers in the supermarket/outlets is probably a sensible option in the current climate. I don't actually know which supermarkets SWL manufacture products for (any idea if this info is available somewhere?). I do know that they make cosmetics for Primark which is a good shop window to have in a recession. Totally agreed on the international facilities - that business in China must have some good potential - nice position to be in there I think. Well after two and a bit years I am as good as broken even with my shares (probably would have done better with a FTSE/AIM list and some darts then!) that has included some monumental oversights which I hope I am over for the most part and the interest/excitement/ | nehpets81
20/4/2012 14:17 | Hello ...other SWL poster !...not many around ! --- Ah, the IC was the source about PG perhaps looking to sell.....thanks for the info..I didn't know... (PG did buy in at around 40p...so he is sitting on a large profit.... but now that he has got one of his men to be the chairman...personall SWL is an interesting co. I think for anyone that wants to try to re-position or develop it....with a factory in Czech republic as well as the UK and some functions in China...and other sales offices in at least Paris and USA imho it needs to move away if it can from being a low margin producer for UK outlets/supermarkets imho the boardroom changes will be good...hopefully ..a fresh look ...a new impetus while previously the EPS had been improving....I had the general impression of slow movement/development of the company....while noting that it is in competitive sector and smallish bottom line margins...and large wages bill versus margins...so not a five minute job to re-direct and avoid falling over in the process... ===== "I have been investing in shares for a couple of years now but only recently have I really tried to properly understand the companies I have invested in " interesting ! ..although with the many shock profits warnings produced by UK listed companies...maybe a pin and a blindfold approach to stock picking would sometimes appear to be a reasonable method ! | markt
16/4/2012 13:54 | Haha, depends on your definition of novice I guess. I have been investing in shares for a couple of years now but only recently have I really tried to properly understand the companies I have invested in and as such I do now take an interest in any info I can find, and I much prefer the smaller companies - far more interesting! The comment about PG trying to sell his shares was mentioned in the round up of the company in the Investors Chronicle (something like he hasn't managed to find a buyer for his shares yet) but I was unable to find any other references to it. The report may have been published before the recent reinstatement I likewise I'm surprised if he's looking for a way out. I still think that all these boardroom changes can't be good for the company as a whole, though. Anyhoo, thanks for the comments - at least someone read my musings (even if you do think it's very strange)! Oh, and I'm pretty sure everyone knows what cash flow is... | nehpets81
02/4/2012 16:05 | BTW Avon has received an offer..from Coty for 10Bn$ | markt |
