Forgive me - I'm new to the products. Is a VMS turnkey solution the same as the products set out in the original release below? And if so, why bring it up again almost 3 years later?

SRT, the AIM-quoted provider of maritime domain awareness technologies, products and solutions, is pleased to announce that it has received an order for 410 Identifier AIS transceivers and a GeoVS
VIEWER display system for deployment in the Galapagos Islands. The units will be shipped in June for immediate use on vessels operating in the Galapagos maritime territory.

The SRT VMS System is being used by authorities to continuously track and monitor all fishing boats to enhance the management, efficiency and safety of fishermen and protect against illegal, unregulated and unlicensed fishing (IUU).
The SRT VMS system was delivered as a turn-key system solution and provides a range of unique performance and functionality; real time, zero latency vessel tracking without range limitation or coverage gaps, enhanced vessel tracking visualisation, vessel ELOG with catch reporting and license management, powerful vessel data and track analytics, reporting and filters.
A customer representative said: “SRT has extensive practical experience in planning and deploying maritime monitoring systems around the world and their VMS System has proven performance and the specialist fisheries functionality we and our Coast Guard colleagues needed. The choice of partner and system was therefore clear for

For any remaining berks, that was dated 2 June 2014. News, indeed.

'SRT Marine Systems PLC is pleased to announce that it has successfully worked with local partners to deploy the SRT VMS System to monitor and manage a national fleet of fishing boats operating up to 250km from shore across an area of over 600,000km2 much of which is open-ocean and incorporates sensitive marine environments.'

From the original RNS

'The Galapagos Islands, which are a province of Ecuador, are located 650 miles from the Ecuador coast and have a highly sensitive and unique environment, which is subject to strict protection. Vessels are only permitted to operate in certain areas at specific times. In 2012, the authorities of the islands determined that all boats operating in their waters should be tracked and monitored to ensure compliance with operating regulations. A system of AIS base stations was installed in 2013 and a regulation drafted and enacted requiring local and visiting vessels to be fitted with an AIS transceiver to enable authorities to monitor and regulate movements. The Identifier transceivers were tested and evaluated over the course of a year, during which they met all requirements with a recorded system tracking range of up to 180 miles due to the height of the AIS base stations.

Simon Tucker, SRT CEO said: "The order from the Galapagos Islands is in line with the global trend of authorities seeking to monitor their maritime domains using AIS. The Identifier was developed specifically for small fishing boat monitoring and so were perfect for this project. I am delighted that SRT's products will be playing an active long-term role in protecting this valuable and unique habitat. Although a small order, the Galapagos is an excellent showcase for the pending Ecuador fishing fleet monitoring project with up to 20,000 vessels, and the wider South American market."

Could you possibly point me to the Galapagos reference that you believe todays news refers to? I cannot seem to find anything that might match this.

TIA

News is news and it's a nice piece of new business.

This "berk" has added, despite remarks from the pompous oaf above.

It depends. When I trained as an accountant, materiality was fairly flexible, but 5% of profits was often ballpark. In general, though, it is such as to affect the user's judgement of the company and would include something that turns a profit into a loss even if that only involves £100k.

Some berks have decided to buy on this non-news or the MMs have read this board and marked prices up.

I reckon it will drift as it was before, until real news comes out, maybe weakening as the prospect of a miss becomes more likely. They may also need some cash.

Thank you Lavalmy....I seem to remember 'material' had some kind of definition...like 10pct of expected turnover...and I am not sure if finnCapp have a projection of that yet !

Rehashed Galapagos or an error listing the news on the website before an RNS? I'm also confused

I cant work it out - clearly not material in financial terms or it would be RNS'd??

Yet it's obviously about a system and all that goes with that.

Slightly reheated Galapagos, it would seem.

Given the lack of RNS, this is immaterial. Possibly Simon is keen to put out some/any sort of news, given the lack since November.

If that is so, then it may be unlikely that material news will be announced in the short term and increases the risk of a miss for this FY. My thesis that this will not matter could be put to the test.

News release:

Headline: The SRT VMS System Monitors S.American Fishing Fleet

Extracts:

"SRT Marine Systems PLC is pleased to announce that it has successfully worked with local partners to deploy the SRT VMS System to monitor and manage a national fleet of fishing boats operating up to 250km from shore across an area of over 600,000 sq km much of which is open-ocean and incorporates sensitive marine environments. "

"Simon Tucker, SRT CEO said: “We are delighted to have worked with yet another authority to implement a fisheries monitoring system that will grow and evolve with them in the future."

Judging by the range, this must include satellite monitoring.

This bus has arrived right on time - are there more behind?
