01/2/2012 14:40 | Good idea. | praipus
01/2/2012 11:37 | yep - a good source of info. if you can get a list of trusts with continuation votes on there, it would certainly help the less informed smaller investors! | edwardt
01/2/2012 11:31 | Thanks again they dont all do that take look at the chart on TRV, I bought at the top! Cant remember if I've mentioned the WAM thread before where I attempt to track the most active professional deep value investors. | praipus
01/2/2012 11:15 | well - there you go - another one bites the dust - well done praipus. | edwardt
09/1/2012 16:03 | thanks lol, happy to take 2 and 20 anytime:) Probably be more telling to see if I'm still in business by the end of this year. | praipus
09/1/2012 11:27 | welld done you - you should do it for a living! | edwardt
05/1/2012 10:24 | yes - have a position and have added this week or so - hard to find stock though. I don't hedge as am happy to take the market risk. Also as SR move their gross and net exposure all the time, i suspect for me it would only end in tears as i would not be able to manage the correct hedging amount. Weiss will have a team of data junkies monitoring this accuratetly, | edwardt
04/1/2012 12:53 | Hi Edwardt, agreed interesting. Have you got a position here? If so have you hedged it and how? | praipus
03/1/2012 09:15 | taken from the sr website -see below, the vote is likely to be in the coming months... as things stand the trust is on a 11% discount and is now very small. With a bunch of arbs on the books and with investec probably non too happy, this could well fail when the vote comes. My comment on the hedging is that weiss want probably to isolate the potential return from the wind up = i suspect even they do not know the direction on the euro or the European markets. Hence if they can get an irr of circa 20% on the wind up in six months, they are happy enough.. The Board of the Company considers it to be desirable that the holders of Ordinary shares should have the opportunity to review the future of the Company at appropriate intervals. The Articles of Association of the Company provide that at the Annual General Meeting of the Company held to approve the Company's financial statements in respect of the financial year ending 31 December 2011, the Directors will propose an Ordinary Resoloution for the continuation of the Company in its current form. If this resolution is passed, a similar resolution will be proposed at every third Annual General Meeting thereafter. If such a resolution is not passed, a General Meeting of the Company will be convened within the following four months to consider proposals for the liquidation, reorganisation or reconstruction of the Company. | edwardt
30/12/2011 12:56 | Hi Edwardt, you could be right but what makes you think that? Why would Weiss bother hedging curreny and market if they were going for the continuation vote? | praipus
30/12/2011 11:17 | i think weiss are more interested in the continuation vote that is set for the spring from memory. hence a tidy return if they hedge their euro and market risk in the futures market if they and others force a wind up. | edwardt
30/12/2011 10:47 | Weiss buying, upping their stake to 10.03% | praipus
13/12/2011 10:03 | Hi Skyship, good question and I've got no idea! From what I've seen over the last year of tracking them and others on the WAM thread they have the pressure of client money. So their mandate is not allways obvious. Other thoughts 1. Weiss do look for deep value not just the NAV share price arbitrage 2. Weiss seem to value and shoot for low "higher probability" gains 3. Europe is still one of the largest economies in the world, so perhaps it should not be dismissed, however badly its run. i.e. short selling bans/dead hand of politics etc!! 4. Even Weiss do not always get it right P | praipus
13/12/2011 09:23 | Hi Praipus - Can you explain to me just why WEISS should be buying this. They stand at a mere 10% NAV discount, assisted by the WEISS buying no doubt; and they invest in Europe, where the weak Euro will continue to damage the NAV! I just don't understand it.... | skyship
12/12/2011 22:04 | Weiss in for some more | praipus

01/6/2011 09:37 | Here is one currently close to prior support. Currently 0.95 to buy. | protean
31/5/2011 13:09 | Here is an example on one that occurred this morning. The idea would be to identify something similar before the bounce actually takes place. Notice that the 3 criteria are met: 1. The first time price moved away from that level, it was a strong move and price moved sharply indicating much more supply than demand. 2. The move that ensued was of a decent size. 3. This was the first time that price revisited the level. | protean
31/5/2011 13:08 | Price often turns at prior support and resistance. In an uptrend, prior support therefore represents a low risk entry opportunity. There is a reasonable chance that price will bounce from this level (due to the persistence of support), and the level of risk can be kept low by setting a tight stop just beneath support. However some support levels are more reliable than others. Those that tend to be more successful have the following criteria: 1. Price moved strongly away from support the prior time. 2. Price moved a significant distance from support the first time. 3. Price only spent a (very) short time at the level the first time. 4. Price is revisiting the support level for the first time. Use this thread to identify potential support levels where price may bounce in the near term future. | protean |
