SPD can't pay over £3 and as I've said always be prepared for disappointment when it come to SPD but the recent move does back up my "trading" theory from yesterday morning. Only time will tell gentleman . I've also noticed how well JD Sports price has been doing, (well done to all investors in that because I thought 340 was to high) this might also have the effect of making SPD look a little cheap in comparison ???

Can I just draw you attention to SPD this morning. Maybe the sellers still tucked up in bed after a Thursday night out or has he flown of to St Moritz or maybe the sellers finished . I know the traders in SPD and I'll try and find out what the ratail flow looks like.

Useless23You might be correct but I think for time being it's a trading situation i.e. Seller finished, holding off or upping his sell limit. I'll be interested to see what happens at 14:30 because that's when they usually get slapped .

I'm just looking at the trading pattern and there does seem to be a slight change in the norm. The price is up slightly and the volume is good. Maybe the seller has upped his level or is just watching from the sidelines. I'm certainly not get excited because as you know they often (SPD) leave you disappointed . It's just a trading vue and nothing else.

There's some good volume early doors which is good to see. But will it be same old same old.

MA not daft, once he's bought back 86m of common stock his % of the Co will have risen by using Co funds. It's less for him to buy if he takes it private and also a little less likely there'll be any large dissenting shareholders, win win!!

If this drops down to 270 again and he has no decent news to report to support it and then runs out of buy back money he will have squandered millions of shareholders cash supporting it at a 10% markup of perceived worth. 270-280 should have been the buy back level UNLESS he releases upbeat statements sending this over 300p. Even then he could have picked the stock up a lot cheaper.

As of monday 27th March still approx 10 mill shares to be repurchased by SPD to reach their stated buy back target of 86,324,793 (at the current rate, assuming the share price remains under £3, this will take 15 - 20 trading days).
From their announcement: The shares repurchased by the Company will be held in treasury pending cancellation or re-issue.

He does owe it to a lot of people to run this a quoted going concern but when people get on his rather large shoulders, who's to say he won't just take it private ( we all lose out ) and then he make a success out of it afterwards . You don't want this taken private but if nosey politicians and single minded journalist have there way he might just pull the trigger and small shareholders will lose out and these are the people that the media are trying to champion!!!!I'm just about to play around of golf in sunny Surrey .Have a good day.

With new recent purchases in Debenhams and other retailers from time to time via options. It seems to me that MA is looking longer term to expand into other areas and reduce the PR impact of Sports direct warehouse issue.

Moving upmarket with other brands or joint venture may gain some market share.

The only issue is the governance issue with key team players whom are on short contracts will not help. Surely, long term you need team players and size has grown more MA can handle. Also, the role family members sometimes is a question mark and also difficult to justify some of the transaction. Since a lot is surrounded in a mystery of payments.

It is now more like a private family run company without to much outside any governance.

Crowshott I think you'll find that's probably his end game. He hates being in the spotlight and also dislikes being told what to do.When you look at free float don't forget 10% will also be held in treasury and probably two or three institutions that are not selling i.e. Odey. The rest are held by punter like you and I . Maybe 32-25% might be a more realistic free float number. The next 6 months will tell us what the end game is.All the best

Is Mike Ashley trying to take the company private?

Currently shareholding is 58% after share buy back.
Share buy back over the last few months seem to have increased to just over 11% on the total shares in the marketplace.

Thus, now only 42% in private shareholders. More share buy back seems to happen everyday.

I will assume the end game may be buyback on the cheap via the back door?

Looks like MA is trying to average down on his put option in an attempt to not have to fork out, DEB share price is about 35% lower than when the option was set up over three years ago.........anybody know when the option expires?http://www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk/companies/news/174983/sports-direct-again-ups-its-interest-in-department-stores-group-debenhams-now-over-13-174983.htmlDD
