Noticed the £ strong against the $ so should be good for profit margins but not so good for disposals in $.

Worth 700p
When it comes to valuation, Phoenix wrote: “Our central estimate of the intrinsic value of Sports Direct is around 700p per share. If we exclude the brand licensing business, the European stores and the lifestyle business, so that we are talking only about the UK sports retail business, we estimate that it is worth more than twice the current share price [287p at the time].” It added that, for the current share price to be correct, “you would have to exclude all other businesses and assume that margins [in the UK arm] more than halve in perpetuity or that profitability declines by 5pc every year until it reaches zero.

Seems the only thing keeping these up over 280p is the buyback. I hope he has some plan in place because there is no point buying shares at 290 when you could buy them at close to 270. then when the buy back money dries up the shorters could pile in and put it under pressure. One would hope that he can judge the trading and expect these to be well over 300 after the results are announced.

Round and round we go.....jeez :)DiscoDave4 - 19 Jan 2017 - 19:56 - 3460 of 3470 - 0MA moving his shares around by the looks of it and possibly updating % due to the share buyback. Basically though he hasn't bought any shares - 330k before transaction and 330k after. He has more than enough, why would people think he would buy any out of his own pocket anyway!.DD

So if a company buys back shares and keeps them in the company account the voting rights of individual private shareholders increase to compensate for this? Just interested in the dynamics.....

I believe what is happening is that, as each share buy-back occurs, MA's voting rights increase (shares held in treasury have no voting rights) even though his holding remains the same. As he crosses reporting thresholds he has to issue an RNS. Stand to be corrected though!

BookmakerMorningYou discussed the other day about whether SPD would issue a Xmas trading update. I can't see that happening so close to MA announcing an increase in stake. But as I've always said no matter what a lot of people think about him.....he's no mug. Funny how Odey increased his stake the other day as well.
