InArica, you echo my reservations with Harry, but being realistic what real alternative have we got. No 'high-profile' manager will want to know as there is no money to spend and we don't want to be risking an up and coming manager at this stage. Looking at Man Utd market cap. of 750 million against our 7.5 million makes you realise what an irrelevance the premiership is becoming. If we create a supporters trust it may provide some security but it is also likely to secure inertia as well. Only a serious injection of money will solve this one and I am suprised that in an area that must have created plenty of wealthy people over the years no one has emerged.

It looks as if the best we can expect is a couple of seasons of consolidation and hope that some of the highly rated youth team emerge.

Good luck to any holders, I hope someone is tempted by Lowe's 25 mill offer.

Timbo- I am inclined to agree that the club is undervalued, although the spread is truly offputting and it is unlikely to generate earnings in the championship. Even in the premiership the quality of earnings progression left a lot to be desired.

At these levels of market cap I am attracted to the idea of a fans purchase of the club- ie a supporters trust. would cost c£750 per season ticket holder I reckon. is this just a mad pipedream? I suspect Lowe needs to recoup some capital if only to pay down the loans he used to buy his slug of shares in the first place and I hear he is quoted as saying that he would now accept £15m for the club- alreayd climbing down frmo the £25m he quoted previously. I think now is the perfect time; before a rich playboy takes a fancy to a cheap (to buy) high profile toy.

InAfrica - Nice to hear from a Pompey supporter without the tedious use of the word 'scummer'. Have to say you are spot on with your observations, Lowe will be driven by the cheap option(although quite how that aligns with him wanting Hoddle at one stage I don't know). My thoughts were it might be Bond but christ knows what he's been coaching our back four since he arrived I don't know. Mind you a lot of our defensive problems came from the middle, I not sure Redknapp junior was a great idea although I like Quashie. Just hoping for a more interesting season with a few youngsters being brought through. That was the pleasure in the 'old' days, local youngsters (some from the Portsmouth area)like Moran, Holmes, Waldron, Mills, and Baker making it and living your own dream. Times have changed so much that you no longer quite have that connection with the club anymore.

Commiserations on the loss of Yakubu, another unfortunate facet of the modern game, get a decent player then lose him to some club with a sugar daddy. That's why I will be eternally grateful to Le Tiss not just for his ability, on its day the best I've seen, but his loyalty.

Trust you took no offence at my Portsmouth jibe. I've had many a good night at Portsmouth dog's and the Victory/Maritme Musuem is easily my favourite day out.
I haven't lived in Southampton for 20 years and frankly whenever I go to the area I can't wait to get away back north, currently Rutland.

Spare a thought for me next weekend, attending my mate's wedding in Locks Heath. He's a Saints supporter, his best man Pompey and the guest list split roughly 50/50. I'm dreading it.

Best of luck for next season, I not too confident we will be playing you again soon.

Yelrom,as I was born next to Fratton Park and brought up within two miles of it,I guess that Pompey runs through me like Blackpool does through seaside rock.It is not so bad a place and I have had also to have lived in Southampton at one point.Unfortunately I do not currently live in the area.

I can only agree with you that there are almost three leagues within the Premiership : the 3 at the top plus maybe Liverpool, the 3 that came up and the rest and there is no reason why Pompey ( and I would have thought Saints)could not have swapped places with Villa or Charlton there seems little between them all.As the Russian taxpayer seems unlikely to bestow its benefits on either of us I guess we will accept what has become.

Notwithstanding ,every year there is a shock or two and for 2004/2005 it is Saints going down and Everton and Bolton doing so well and the distinguishing thing sems to be quality of management and/or lack of it.Moyes does seem to have good man management and technical ability while Sam has the ability to put together an effective mixture of promise, obscure foreigners and used to bes with a longer timespan than 'Arry has. Whether this can be repeated,I do not know, and will look closely at the spreads to see if they are worth shorting but guess others will have the same idea.

Which brings me back to Lowe:I have no argument about his financial acumen and stand behind TommyNewton on that score. Yet there seems no certainty about the management of the first team nor understanding of what needs to be achieved ,and although the future foundations of the playing squad do not seem to be bad with the youth team and reserves ,is the "business model"right to take the youngsters forward. Where youngsters have been succesful it is where they have been absorbed by strong playing structures through which they can gain confidence and learn things such as positional play and deprivation of space to the opposition.

I think he will be tempted to go with a cheap managerial option ( maybe K Bond and Jim although I think the latter to be the most expensive sponge carrier in football ) and rely on youth and a few left overs that cannot get a better offer. Hope I am wrong but ...... I also feel that there will be an executive role for Sir CLive post the Lions tour. I am ambivalent on that one but it could be worth a try as I do know that as a team manger SCW is highly rated.

By the bye, Yelrom we must be close on the same vintage as I have been a regular Pompey supporter for over 40 years although saw my first match in 1957 the year I think Pompey came down from the glory days in Div 1. I have plenty of memories of visiting the like of Aldershot,SHrewsbury,Stockport, Bury etc and I hope you do not have to follow in such footsteps.

Wary of throwing too many stones in front of next season but I sense we will survive

Well, I've now started collecting Southampton shares, starting today. 5K to start with (the max I could buy on line), I will look to accumulate up to 0.1% (circa 30K) if the fundementals remain the same (or improve) and the share price remains at around current levels.

The current share price (25p) infers a market cap of £7M which is way too low IMHO

In defence of the chairman, the supporters stopped him getting the manager he wanted - The mess started from there. Maybe I'm one of the few Saints fans with a lot of respect for Rupert. Pride comes before a fall / relegation.

Interesting to see the price steady. Saints are one of the few sensibly run footie teams. Half of the first team NEED to be sold and should bring in a few bob. I have watched the second team and they are hot. It will be a big shame if Crouchie leaves - That is my worry.
10,000 season tickets sold already. The fans are terrific!
Claus may be a great guy but the way he backs off attackers worries me. Saints defence is appalling/ ramshackle - Surprised Redknapp has not really improved it.

We'll be back.

As a Pompey fan I have to say that I will miss the local rivalry and the 3 Points ( these Derby games also seem to go with home advantage )

We will need to do something to strengthen our squad if we are not to struggle next season, but despite the stick he has taken from some quarters I think that our Chairman does know how to build a business and seems to have a half decent manager on board.

Not so yours; the goings on over the last two seasons must be a case study in how not to run a football team. But he seems to have the solution...according to the press he is going to cut all the players wages;no doubt some of them deserve this but I can't see the decent ones staying around if this is the case so good-bye to Crouch,Philips,Prutton,Niemi and maybe one or two of the youngsters.

With the right management team you could do an Ipswich ( a season to find your feet and then press hard the following one ) but hope it is not a Leeds where all the reasonable players left and the youngsters floundered. Saints are in better fianncial shape than Leeds but do not think that an excellent youth team will be salvation if the youngsters get stage fright.

Bide your time please; sell 8am Monday.
But if you are thinking of buying at least see the close season out they may delist SOO in the next 3 months to raise dosh....no chance of selling new shares to anyone now. So why pay out for a listing on LSE. Waste of dosh. So DO NOT BUY IN CLOSE SEASON
No more divis ............. ever

I've been following the SOO situation for the last 2-3 months with a view to buying in at the right time, but up to now, I've been keeping my powder (fairly) dry. Commiserations to SOO shareholders and Southamptom fans. I used to be a regular visitor to the Dell back in the 70's to cheer on the Saints, despite being a Bournemouth supporter at heart. Assuming we see a mark down next week, I will almost certainly be having a long term punt in SOO.

Judas & Jim 'miracle' workers - I think not!

Some serious questions to be asked at your club.

Hope you get back after booting out Judas & your Chairman, criminal what has happened. From a Pompey fan.

(Not good for the share price either!)
