400p is the price stated for the board to agree a bid.

Assets of 319p a share and profits for 6 months are £244m Call it £500m for 12 months and currently all we have is the asset value. Qatar could buy at the current price and gain £500m a year. Normally a £500m profit would be valued at say a PE of 10 or £5bn. Qatar need to add £5bn to the pot here.Thats about another 600p on the current share price and a PE of 10 is quite reserved.

I'm expecting this to rise to 400p which should guarantee the bid is accepted.

Agreed. But can blame them for trying. There will be a second at least

295p - oh well they could have been more serious given the prospects of the improved NAV and security. 395 would be more appropiate.

'First' low ball offer! Like that they've dismissed it out of hand and announced it shows they're not messing about!

This should rise above 400p tomorrow as the news is absorbed

I think the bid price will be a lot higher. At 300p sbd is valued at 2bn. Sbd currently have assets worth 6.5bn. To match the value of the assets they would not accept an offer below 500p but more close to 900p
