17/1/2017 18:45 | 2 cheap technology small-caps for 2017. Softcat Softcat (LSE: SCT) is a provider of IT infrastructure to the corporate and public sectors. The £590m market cap company provides organisations with datacentre, networking and security solutions and provides the services to design, implement, support and manage these solutions. Although Softcat only listed on the London Stock Exchange in November 2015, the company has been in existence for over 20 years, growing significantly in this time. In the last five years alone, revenue has more than tripled from £219.2m in FY2011 to £672.4m in FY2016 and the impressive growth is forecast to continue, with City analysts pencilling-in revenue of £744.4m and £813.0m for the next two years. The stock enjoyed a strong yet volatile run immediately after floating, rising from 240p to around 380p, however the Brexit result caused investors to panic and the shares were sold-off heavily. Softcat now trades at just under the 300p mark and at this price, the shares trade on a forward looking P/E ratio of 15.1, which seems relatively low given the company's growth history. Softcat also has appealing dividend prospects, with the company rewarding its shareholders last year with regular dividends of 5.3p as well as a generous special dividend of 14.2p. Analysts anticipate regular dividends of 10.3p per share for FY2017, a yield of 3.5%. Although Brexit could potentially affect earnings, I believe that demand for cyber security and data storage services will remain robust in the coming years, and management recently stated that the company was off to a good start in 2017. After a 20% share price drop in the last six months, Softcat appears to offer broad exposure to the IT sector at a reasonable valuation | igoe104

19/12/2016 18:19 | All depends on capex spending and cash flow health, which therefore dictates how much free cash they have at yr end. seemed pretty good in last years report and barring any major capex / acquisitions, im expecting another one this year. | smokybenchod
19/12/2016 17:20 | Bodicea - I think you may have misread my post re: Special dividends. I wasn't ruminating on what the term meant, but rather how many of them to expect before it's a return to normal dividend expectations only. . . I ask this because as per the last RNS it was revealed: "...In line with the Company's stated intention to return excess cash to shareholders over time, the Board has proposed A FURTHER special dividend payment....." . . . . "Further" not an impulsive ad hoc situation. I think but am not sure, that this is the second consecutive special dividend and the RNS is talking of yet more specials to come before they complete the current excess payments. So more to come with no hint of 'ad hoc' about it, but rather a "planned" return of excess cash to shareholders via Special dividends, with no randomness about it. I hope that I am a bit clearer this time with my open query of wondering if anyone has worked out how many more specials to expect before they cease as a "regular" occurrence. | velod
19/12/2016 16:18 | Naked trader buying more, totally agree with his comments. Softcat (SCT) paid out a massive dividend which I am about to receive on the shares I hold but it went down a bit more than the dividend (probably people thinking it was tanking not realising it was because of the ex div) so I have bought some more. PS I`M still waiting for my divi, but its not unsual with selftrade. | igoe104
19/12/2016 16:12 | Afaik special divis are ad hoc one-off events. | boadicea
17/12/2016 09:04 | Not long before official ex divi rating expires, now that holders have all been paid - and that should release the share price restrictions to hurdle over above 300p and thus the dwindling opportunity to buy/top up below 300p. . . . Need to read up on how long the special divi will continue to be paid in addition to the standard divi but at current rates it's all giving well over 6%+ annual divi return. Which puts it right at the top end of high divi paying stocks on the market. | velod
16/12/2016 16:20 | Ignore the last. I've received it! | maverick82
16/12/2016 12:17 | Any ideas when the Divi payment will appear in my SD account?? | maverick82
16/12/2016 12:16 | Ahh if only the share price could be so easily influenced by reinvesting divis. We PI's are just extra's in this film script. That's how much influence we exert on the share price There's one entity that when it/they move - all before it falls to it's command and reacts accordingly. Almost like some ancient tribe staring at the sky for it's arrival - Institutions! It all hangs on their moves. There are investors that do nothing but try to track institutional buying and selling for that very reason. Whatever, the share price is taking it's time to break the resistance around 300 isn't? | velod
08/12/2016 09:50 | I wonder how much of the big dividend (16th Dec) will be reinvested by holders? Could give the share price a boost. | boadicea
