Smith & Nephew jumps on news of Zimmer bid for Biomet
Talk of further sector consolidation follows new $13.35bn US healthcare deal





The spate of deals, real and reported, in the pharmaceutical sector has spilled over into another part of the healthcare world.

Medical device maker Zimmer has announced a $13.35bn deal to buy US orthopaedic products group Biomet.

The news has put the spotlight on Smith and Nephew, which specialises in hip and knee implants and wound management and rejected a £15bn merger with Biomet in 2011. S&N has often been tipped as a takeover target, with another US group Johnson & Johnson offering £7bn for the business just before the Biomet proposal.

S&N's shares have jumped 30p to 909.5p as news of the Zimmer deal prompted renewed speculation of consolidation in the sector.

from the looks of things ,there has been steady volumes that could look like stake building , and what seems to be an incessant rise in share price without much news ,
but at where the pe is at the moment I don't see any logic in a bid

New AWM president to replace Roger Teasdale just announced, Glenn Warner. Who was Vice President of AbbVie. I'm surprised this change in senior management has not been announced externally. Maybe it will be announced during Q1 results.

would sell if it it hit ~895p, aiming for ~950p/~5pc

ive a feeling now this may test the low at ~900p

would be looking to go long though at that point with a stop just below the 900p level... i dont think this will break its long term trend..

imo, resistance as it stands is ~928p for the break of downtrend, and support is ~900p being the low on ther 27th March.

slow stoch looking encouraging though...

spock: should get back to ~960p area, then test it for either a double top or breakout. have to assess conditions at the time, but now, i think it'l get back to top and breakout..

President of AWM Roger Teasdale is leaving the business at the end of the month. Has this been announced externally yet? Not sure what impact to share price this could have? If any at all.

OK thanks mate, I bought in the other day around 925 lol.. holding long term though as I think this has some legs in it once it gets past 925.

Once it gets past 925 where do you see the top ?

I realise this thread is about dead, however does anyone have a view on the
J&J news reports today and any implications this may have for the ratings
of medical device manufacturers?.
