I seem to remember break up value of this company being set at 37p a share before rights issue 3 times 11.5 is still less than this. The share at this price seems a bargain with debt problem over and stv increasing market share.

very depressing apparently 4 interested in virgin after the sale? they will return capital to share holders how much depends on sale price i presume at this rate the share price will be lower than the poss. 7 p they could be returning to us that must value smg at about 5p that can never be right with the majority of the shares held by funds who will be in the same vote as us this must be reaching a point where utv can get smg for a real steal. the larger holders will want more for this than the share price i am awaiting funds to average down again. i presume all will be revealed beginning of april .the fact of no news is always a worry

Is there anything out there to halt the shareprice sliding.
What`s happening with Virgin Radio?
These are one of my worst share picks im holding (% loss). No point in selling them now with results early next month, but what price will we be at then!!!.

C`mon SMG give us some good news.

your guess is as good as mine but i reallly cant see much of a fall in next 6 wks
with nearly 80% of co in hands of funds then the free market is inevitably dominated by PIs They arent going to sell until the Virgin deal has been announced in a month or so
The funds who remain are all down a bundle and need something like 25p to see daylight again so they will only sell if they need the money or the CG loss for other reasons Theres no way this co will go bust its just a matter of how long we need to wait to get back in profit The new MD is biting the bullets that need to be bitten and he does know the business very well
The real testing time for the share price is the period before 5 April when for various reasons the share price ought to start moving up
eg
new tax year
virgin out of way and capital return to shareholders announced
New MD 9m in job
Interim statement due
New programmes have had time to be evaluated
recession looming may push up advertising especially for online sites
etc

Do you see going down to retest the lows of 12p-13p...and then to 10p as a base building...on small to tiny caps when the price falls below the 15p then odds favour going down to 10p...obviously no guarantees but I have noticed too often over the years...

With this latest purchase by UBS around 78% of SMG is held by the funds mentioned previously leaving a free market of around 200m shares including any undeclared funds just below 3%

I believe Shearer is a director of SMG. With Watt the news in the header dated 4/2/2008 has this ...George Watt 2,022,245 (includes options and connected person interests)

However D.C. Thompson could well be the newspaper company that prints The Sunday Post and Oor Wullie/The Broons etc.... although i may be totaly wrong, but that name rings a bell with me.
As for Evans, im not sure.

I would have to do some more checking to be sure of the above.

The rights issue was taken up by 57% of the shareholders...now that is not a very positive outcome in terms of confidence and the timing of the issue to coincide with the credit crunch, investors keeping money to themselves...does that mean there is a lot of new shares still to work through the system with the institutional investors who are probably willing to pay less than the issue price of 15p...any views...

Very good point
Perhaps the timing will depend on how well the new MD performs in his first year......if he looks like turning the business around then UTV may move faster than they would otherwise
Have to say as an STV viewer
Some of their newer prgrammes look good
