06/9/2007 11:09 | .......So the RNS has to be released when 80% of the shares have been sold......Given that 32m and 6.5m were sold in two trades this suggests the total volume being traded will be at least 49m assuming an RNS today or tomorrow....... if not the volume is over 49m.......Looks like theres only one seller in the frame.....Granada | gerry321
06/9/2007 11:04 | Acorn this may help.... Worked Principal Transaction A transaction under the WPA regime takes place in the following manner. An institutional investor, such as a pension fund wishing to buy or sell a large number of shares, contacts a broker dealer. At this point, the parties enter into a provisional agreement and agree the basic terms for the trade including limit price and size on which improvement must be sought by the broker dealer. This agreement, between the broker dealer acting as principal and the institutional investor, is known as a Worked Principal Agreement. The terms of this agreement are reported to the Exchange but are not published. After the parties have entered into the agreement, the broker dealer searches for counter parties with whom to offset the trade. If no counter parties have been found, the deal will still go ahead, with the broker dealer meeting the customer's entire requirement by adjusting his own holdings of the stock. It is a requirement of the regime that the broker dealer should attempt to improve on the terms of the original agreement. The parties must execute and report the trade by either (a) the end of the trading day, or (b) when the broker dealer has found counter parties for 80% of the value of the trade, whichever is the earlier. If they so wish, the parties can carry out the trade earlier than either of these times. The regime is restricted to trades instigated by the customer that are larger than eight times the Normal Market Size (8 x NMS) for the security concerned. | gerry321

05/9/2007 23:17 | according to level 2 32.6mill went through at 4.39 after the close all very odd maybe some rns thursday to clarify strange share movements got me interested in this share before hanover came on board by the way on level2 what is a WT trade? anyone know i have not seen this prefix before i think you will do well buying at37.5p . i had athought about ad revenue we now know betting companies can now advertise but a company i worked for years ago wanted to do atv ad campain but called it off because the fees went thru the roof because a general election was called and the political parties were willing and able to pay over the odds for advertising space . i wonder if this would still be the case if mr brown called an election say before xmas | acornoptical

04/9/2007 21:41 | Cleudo Agreed Hence my point about a distress sale.....possibly by Fidelity We wont have long to wait..........an RNS is due tomorrow The good news is that its probaby a sale more to do with the seller needing the proceeds rather than some impending disaster within SMG Hence Its a buying opportunity........i | gerry321
04/9/2007 21:02 | Why would you place that number of shares? Wouldn't UTV have gobbled the lot up if offered? | cleudo
04/9/2007 20:59 | At 42m its got to be Fidelity......Are they in trouble in the US........?? Where else have they a big stake....?? | gerry321

04/9/2007 16:51 | thanks latestart I wonder how Hanover are going to get a decent return on this investment. 32 million extra shares. sale prices of subsidiaries not top. operational performance of STV will really have to increase considerably - yes there is room for that. But what multiple will the market be willing to give to the STV business...once operational performance is back on track, I don't see too many growth opportunities so mulitple will be modest. A correct value for the share (if oper. turnaround works) would be between 50-100p, not more. Hanover paid 70p. that's my reasoning - but I still believe in Hanover's capabilities so they might be right and I might be wrong | pjetr
04/9/2007 16:45 | why big drop / have some news? today closed price is 37.5p, but large trade is 40.5 P bad news or just say OK? | hmkwan
04/9/2007 16:06 | seems a placing by GS at 40.5 for 32m shares | latestarter
01/9/2007 11:03 | Sale price although 'solid' was not thought to be 'spectacular' according to Citigroup. Cash up front was 52M - the other 10 might never be seen as 5M is a penalty if GMT exits the business (what does this mean?), and the other 5M is performance related (eek). Meanwhile, UTV have been making noises about jumping in again if the Virgin IPO falls through - thought this would have had a positive effect on the share price though. Finally, has anyone noticed that, as from today, Gambling ads are allowed on tv? This may have a beneficial effect on 4th quarter ad revenues... | cleudo
31/8/2007 15:59 | no idea does someone know something ? i would have thought this sale would be good news and have a positive efect on share price with reduction of debt. | acornoptical

22/8/2007 10:28 | could it be utv to force the price down for a bid. i have been feeling that this has been held back and these shares on loan could be the reason .the fact they are not willing to float of virgin with the market conditions wont help and lack of news flow compounds this . results due september 15th i think as i have said beforehanover paid up ot 70p a share for this so if you think that they have the ability to turn this around the share price must be worth buying in to | acornoptical
21/8/2007 23:00 | strange did anybody notice the number of SMG shares that are on loan? more than 10% now of the shares in issue it used to be 2 % a year ago. has been going up non-stop. shares are on loan mainly to be able to short. so who is shorting, continuing and increasing short positions, and why? cheers Pj | pjetr
20/8/2007 08:48 | 20/08/2007 08:15 SMG's Virgin Radio Makes Appointments Ahead of IPO -2- Virgin Radio's Chief Executive Paul Jackson said in a statement that the new appointments would help "guide" the company "through the flotation and beyond." Some press reports have questioned whether volatility in the credit markets could force SMG to postpone the Virgin Radio IPO. Speaking to Dow Jones Newswires Monday, Huntingford declined to provide a clear timetable for the flotation. While he believes there is "a strong equity story" in Virgin Radio, current market conditions are a "relevant" factor in deciding when to launch the IPO, he said. "SMG never gave a precise timetable," he said, when asked whether the IPO would occur in October. "It's a case of making sure that things are prepared." SMG fired the starting gun on an IPO of Virgin Radio, one of the U.K.'s three national radio licenses, in June as part of a wider strategy to reduce debt, sell non-core assets and refocus on SMG's core marketplace as Scotland's commercial television broadcaster. SMG's Chief Executive Rob Woodward said earlier this year that Virgin Radio had also received approaches for the business from third parties - whom he didn't identify. Can anyone remark on the implications of this last paragraph? | illuminatus |
