Posted at 18/1/2024 17:52 by mrnumpty Sleepy . I hold Yu Group . Its main business is as an energy broker for commercial customers . Just over half the shares are held by the founder and CEO Bobby Kalar ( I realise there are pros and cons in such a situation , but he’s certainly got skin in the game ) . Yu is soon to announce its figures , probably on 24th January . Another energy company in which I gave a smaller holding is Good Energy , which operates in the area of installing heat pumps , solar panels and electric vehicles ( I am very aware that this means the company is exposed to politics ( and therefore possibly a forthcoming new Governnent ) , and a lot of people won’t be able to afford such net zero items , but net zero seems to be written in to primary legislation so , without a change in the law , it seems that net zero is happening whether we want it or not ) . That's an honest answer to you , Sleepy and , as I am aware that you might be looking for a new home for hopefullybig profits from SMS , please ensure that you do your own research . For interest , both the companies I mention above are tipped in the monthly magazine Small Company Share Watch , which is not always infallible ! |
Posted at 18/1/2024 16:47 by mrnumpty There’s a fairly large article on page 20 of today’s Telegraph about the attractiveness for big funds to buy up smart meter companies like SMS , and much of the article refers to SMS . I’ve never owned SMS , but I do own a much smaller company which is expanding its smart meter division for the same reasons as SMS has done . Good luck |
Posted at 18/1/2024 16:44 by mrnumpty I have never held SMS but , holding shares in a much smaller company which is also building on its installed electric meter business , I noticed an article in today’s Telegraph titled “ Why Wall Street raiders want to control your smart meter “ . It’s written by Michael Bow , it’s on page 20 of the physical version , and it’s sub-titled “ Private equity is out to grab machine suppliers that offer a steady stream of cash “ . Good luck all |

Posted at 14/1/2024 13:32 by bulltradept I can't see how the Shareholders can think they'll get nore than £9.55 from a TA pov going back over the last 5 - 8 years or so, that would be suicide to reject the deal, as the price would collapse surely. |
Posted at 05/1/2024 08:57 by 1jat Yes, the deal is now 955p….but the Board is delaying the vote from 9 to 22 Jan.Apparently the SH need more time to consider the merits of the deal (read not enough acceptances). Whether a new price will emerge next week that can be accepted on 22nd is to be seen. The market does not expect a bidding war….but maybe KKR can justify £10. (Interest rates are falling after all). I sold half at 960 when the deal was first announced…..wi |
Posted at 08/12/2023 09:32 by feddie The price is reflecting the 955p cash offer + 8.32p dividend (to be paid 24 Jan), minus the time value of the expected final settlement date probably at the end of 1Q2024. |
Posted at 07/12/2023 17:35 by 1jat The price is a little higher than I would expect but there should be little competition review so the deal should be done in a couple of months time.Unless there is a counter then being paid part of the premium is attractive now (esp if paying higher rate tax on it) |

Posted at 06/9/2023 11:57 by fairman I notice Best.Energy a leading energy efficiency company is working with SMS.From their LinkedIn account "This week in the office we welcomed the SMS plc team for a kick-off meeting for a large multi-site project that we're collaborating on.Various members of our Best.Energy team from the Projects, Commercial and Technical departments joined to ensure that we're perfectly synchronised heading into the program. Having a team with the right mix of skills and experience will be essential to maximising the energy savings results for our client. This was a really valuable meeting and we are pleased that we got to have it in person as there really is no replacement for face-to-face interaction!" I think that energy efficiency is a natural area for SMS to continue to expand into. Good stuff. |
