13/7/2010 07:05 | SKYWEST AIRLINES LTD ("Skywest" or "the Company") JUNE 2010 AIRLINE PASSENGER OPERATING STATISTICS Skywest, the Australian and South East Asia regional airline is pleased to announce its network operating statistics for the month of June 2010. Skywest RPT Passenger numbers for June increased by 10.76% over the previous year, while Skywest traffic measured by Revenue Passenger Kilometres (RPKs), increased by 13.33%. Load factor also increased by 9% to 59.14% compared to the previous year and Charter Traffic, measured by Charter Available Seat Kilometres (ASKs), increased by 13.15%. | standish11
06/7/2010 01:30 | Ouch! That 190K$/M does sound painful. I guess they'll resolve it in time... I sold my DTG 'cos of the volcano, thinking I'd be safer here! User rates are up anyway, so the original reasons to buy are still there. What's up with these new licenses? Was that A320 move as a result of route gains? If so, they could be cheap at this price. | napoleon 14th
14/6/2010 15:05 | I have a few ideas why johnv. I sold all my holding in tranches between 18-20p and i know many other people did too from other boards, either long term holders who were now in profit, or short term holders who had multibagged. The A320 lease is a big step up, and vital to the company, but right now its not flying and not earning money. Its costing $190,000 per month lease, aswell as the costs of getting a licence, and of recruiting appropriately skilled pilots, technicians etc. Partly for this reason, I prefer the investment case for Avation AVAP, which is receiving the $190,000 per month lease, and is where all the proceeds from my SKYW sales went. | davydoo
14/6/2010 14:55 | CR, why do you think these are slowly drifting down? To me a good entry point would be around 14p the 200 day ma. | johnv
14/6/2010 10:49 | Yep, good numbers today. Bloomberg also highlighting this morning the rapid growth in flights in the Pacific region - highlighted all the new airstrips that need to be built and plane-sharing - can't see how SKYW can do anything but thrive imo. Year end June 30 - perhaps a year end t/s. CR | cockneyrebel
14/6/2010 08:08 | Figures look promising | matt
20/5/2010 16:07 | Your very right in what you say davydoo, i think some of these small town governers need to be realistic in there demands for more access as you say im sure they would want newer jet airecraft servicing their towns but with populations of between 10,000 to 35,000 its not economical. As i said before its going to be awaiting game now to see what comes of the tenders, once we know it will make any investment decision clearer. | stluke
20/5/2010 15:11 | I'd be interested to see if Virgin and Qantas do actually bid for these routes, or at least bid competitively. They both run much larger and newer aircraft in comparison to Skywest (with lots of old Fokker 50s and 100s) these must come at a higher cost which has to be passed on to the consumer. Also skywest can make a lot of these otherwise unprofitable routes work by combining them with their charter contracts. Skywests load factor can look artifically low, because they are not counting charter contracts that also puts bums on seats within those flights. | davydoo
20/5/2010 14:35 | Fortunately for skywest the ore is where the ore is super tax or no super tax so i dont see that as so much of a problem, the mines in place are long term substantial operations and chuck off such high levels of margins and profits that the mining co's can easily afford to pay any tax, they were always going to kick up a stink. What worries me more is the outcome of the review currently underway mentioned in the RNS today, competitive pressures are likely to strain margins if Virgin Blue and Quantas fly on Skywest routes. | stluke
20/5/2010 13:25 | I sold out this morning on the premise of the Australian Mining Supertax. If that 40% rate goes ahead, I'm of the belief that substantial mining investment will leave the Country for more favourable climes. There will always be some mining in Aus, but could you imagine the affect on Skywest's charter service if majors were to cut down their Australian investments by a significant degree? A lot of this obviously hinges on CRuddy winning the next election Down Under. If he doesn't, then the tax will probably die with his Government. With the way the Market's are right now, I just felt it prudent to protect some of my gains. I've not sold everything en-mass, but my current rule of thumb is to sell if I think there's more of an immediate downside risk vs distant potential for further gains. Good luck to everybody still invested in SKYW. I may be back in the future. ;) | jimbo55
20/5/2010 09:43 | Although good news today, will hold fire until the ongoing review is complete hopefully in the next couple of months, could see big changes to who is allowed to operate these protected routes, the likes of Virgin Blue and Quantas have made it clear they want some of the action and have put forward proposals to do so. | stluke
10/5/2010 12:03 | a few little sellers today but a larger buyer soaking them up and causing the price to be firm imo. Today's statement was good imo - co can't say anything else regarding the miners tax but to me it seems difficult to see how it can affect them adversely imo. More imprortantly these look so cheap it's amazing anyone is selling imo. CR | cockneyrebel
07/5/2010 10:23 | Another dip ........someone is after this stock imho | wolansm
06/5/2010 19:06 | "Looking to make a craking breakout here imo - dip bought up rapidly this am." Yep, by me. Been wanting to buy in here for ages and yesterdays dip was the perfect opportunity. | bigbigdave
06/5/2010 11:41 | cr you echo my thoughts exactly or maybe its the other way around | wolansm
06/5/2010 11:11 | Looking to make a craking breakout here imo - dip bought up rapidly this am. CR | cockneyrebel
06/5/2010 09:30 | mm sniffing after cheap stock; now returning to Valkera | wolansm
06/5/2010 09:15 | punters moving over as its a safe bet in these troubled times. | onbendedkneees
06/5/2010 07:50 | 240k buy pre open at a near 10% premium CR | cockneyrebel
05/5/2010 20:01 | Well I bought 75k more today. Always to have cash for the red days. There seems to be no "super tax" payable on airlines in Aus yet. | wolstencroft
05/5/2010 19:29 | yep, but basically the demand for minerals won't decline because mining co's pay more tax imo. MM's screwing any sellers today as they've been burnt on the rise imo. CR | cockneyrebel
05/5/2010 19:19 | I know that perhaps the Oz mining industry may not go quite as beserk as it might thanks to the proposed new taxes, but this looks like one of their planes has crashed! No need for a 14% down day, especially as it was up yesterday on a worse day in the markets and that the tax news came out on Sunday. | stegrego
05/5/2010 17:24 | MM's been unable to mark down to get stock for a while now so they took the opportunity to mug a few out today imo. Bet they rack this up as fast as they can when the decent size buys show up. Like they have that much stock they were charging a penny over the market last week for 100k. CR | cockneyrebel |
