Could Sirius Minerals be swept along in potash industry merger mania?

13 Sep 2016

The mega-merger between Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc (NYSE:POT) and Agrium Inc (TSE:AGU) could bode well for smaller industry players such as Sirius Minerals PLC (LON:SXX).

Potash, whose core product is used in fertilizer, on Monday said it had agreed an all-share tie-up to create a company set to be worth about US$27bn.

If you look at post 27100 I started by mentioning your accusation that I didn't do my own research.
The rest of the post was 'general' not addressed to you.
Don't worry.
I won't address you again.
As soon as people start using personal remarks I can tell they are best avoided.

The big risk comes with Stge 2 funding.

The debt is likely to be scured on the resource, and the existing mine infrastructure at that time.

If anything goes wrong, the banks/hedges who supplied the debt, walk away with everything and the PIs get nothing.

Have a look at XEL and GKP.

I find some posts very useful on here.
Again I am not new to this share ....bought and sold years ago.....
but am new to the current threads.

Perhaps we can start again....don't wish to get anyone's back up.

As I have said all along iam long but not to exposed to sxx , remember 4 weeks ago I started posting again when certain posters stated getting excited (call me 30p Dave) and commented that I couldn't see this rising above these levels because of the overhang of stock ! So 4 weeks later where are we?

Hazl,

"I think we have already established that some of you are just 'buy the dip' merchants"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope your research is better than your insight. I bought into Sirius in 2015, bought more when the share issue was announced and now hold a significant amount at an average price of 20.22p.

I bought £14k at 20.7p in addition to the above with the express intention of selling at around 30p.

All of the above has been included in previous postings but you only digest what you find agrees with you.

Please go back to Johnmorons thread and stop trying to tell everyone what THEIR investment strategy is. You did say it was better than this one!

NMRN

PS. But the dip merchants are currently doing better than you who bought in at 26p so maybe that's why you're constantly ramping!

Perhaps worth repeating?

'But if you adopt a Buffett mentality when approaching Sirius, it's easy to look past what could go wrong and instead focus on the firm's tremendous potential.
Sirius already has the funding it needs in place to complete the first stage of the mine's development, which should be complete within five years. Within a decade, the company hopes to have reached production capacity of 20m tonnes per annum. Based on this projection, debt estimates and offtake agreements, my Foolish colleague G A Chester believes shares in Sirius could be worth as much as 271p at this point, a 15-fold increase from current levels. '

I like a variety of shares, some are just 'punts.'

Some are for the dividend.
Yet again some I hope will be something to pass on to my kids and I can wait.

Of course.....we van never be sure of anything there are no guarantees.....

in any of these things.

NMRN I do my own research.
A simple Google search is all that's needed.

I think we have already established that some of you are just 'buy the dip' merchants and that's fine...that's what makes a market.
I can see it might be frustrating for those that want it go down but some of us are looking at the long-term scenario.
Just reminding people of the amazing potential returns IF it goes in our favour.

Nothing wrong with that.

Landowners including farmers, the Crown Estate and the Duchy of Lancaster will pocket some of the £65m in annual royalties Sirius is set to pay out when the mine is up and running

dp1umb,

If the question was about the mineral rights holders, they are being paid "small annual payments, ranging from hundreds of pounds to the low thousands, depending on the size of the land and will do so until royalties are paid."

Royalties are 2.5% but will obviously not be paid until production has started.

Apologies if that was not the question. :)
